The president of the transit union, Sukhwinder Singh, told Regina’s mayor and council that the city’s brand new $2M electric buses are only drivable for 1.5-3 hours in the winter before their battery dies. Regina currently has 7 electric buses in its fleet with 13 more planned for delivery in 2026 as part of the city’s climate change action plan. They had a combined cost of $50M+ which was split between the city and the federal government.

A B.C man states he was detained by the RCMP for a Regina event he tried organize on Facebook. The event was supposed to be a pork BBQ outside a new mosque in Regina’s downtown which had recently made national headlines for their outdoor call to prayer. The Facebook event went viral and The National Council of Canadian Muslims called on leaders to, “Denounce this event and to acknowledge that this form of Islamophobic intimidation is dangerous.” The BBQ never ended up taking place.

Two city councillors spoke to the press yesterday regarding the new downtown mosque’s outdoor call to prayer broadcast. The mosque has filed for their noise permit renewal with the Regina Police service, and will be submitting their own community survey results. Noise permits are approved through the Chief of Police who is overseen by the Board of Police Commissioners. The next board meeting will be 9am, Tuesday, July 21st at RPS HQ. Meetings are open to the public. Delegations wishing to speak can register by filling in a delegation form in-person prior to the meeting.
