The president of the transit union, Sukhwinder Singh, told Regina’s mayor and council that the city’s brand new $2M electric buses are only drivable for 1.5-3 hours in the winter before their battery dies. Regina currently has 7 electric buses in its fleet with 13 more planned for delivery in 2026 as part of the city’s climate change action plan. They had a combined cost of $50M+ which was split between the city and the federal government.

The Facebook event went viral and The National Council of Canadian Muslims called on leaders to, “Denounce this event and to acknowledge that this form of Islamophobic intimidation is dangerous.” The BBQ never ended up taking place.
