Jason Bateman says he packed a duffel bag of cash to quit Hollywood and flee the country. Then a role he’d been rejected for years earlier came back around and saved his entire career Bateman: “I was literally very, very close to liquidating what little cash I had, putting it in a duffel bag, going down to the Bradley terminal at LAX… finding a city that looked interesting, and just unplugging and going there, plugging in and starting over…” Host: “What kept you from doing that?” Bateman: “An audition for something I ended up getting. And I was also shadowing the great Jimmy Burrows, the television director. Instead of having all the sitcom experience I had be a detriment, a hurdle, a barrier to hiring me. I wanted to turn that into a positive: start directing, try to be the next Jimmy Burrows” “He was kind enough to let me shadow him and signed me up with his agent, Bob Broder. I directed a few episodes of some sitcoms, and it was great” “I was feeling like an adult, feeling like I was using what I’d learned. And then Arrested Development happened” “When I read that script, there’s no way they’re going to see me for this. They’re trying to do the exact opposite of what I’m known for. And then, Mitch Hurwitz, the genius behind Arrested Development remembered me from an audition a few years earlier, for a pilot he didn’t cast me in” “But he remembered that I’d done really well in that audition. So he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll see him for Arrested Development.’ I went in and just guessed right with what they were looking for… So it was a great fit for me and it came right in the nick of time”

Arnold Schwarzenegger says Sylvester Stallone spent years making more money than him, so he took a $30,000,000 role he didn’t even like just to finally beat him “I was getting a million dollars for Conan 2, this was 1983. Then I read, Sly just made a deal for $5 million for a movie. I said, what the hell?” “Eventually I got $10 million for Total Recall in ‘89. And Sly signed for $15 million. I’m like, Jesus Christ, I can’t catch up, there was always some number bigger than mine” “Eventually we both ended up at $20 million as our standard. Then I did Batman and Robin where I got $30 million, they really wanted me for the movie but I didn’t want to play the villain. They said, ‘$25 million is petty cash, what’s the matter with you guys?’” “So then, they call me back like a month later and they say we give you $30 million plus we give you points and back end and blah blah blah and I said, okay” “This was kind of my way to pay back for all the tortures over the years that he got more than I did”

From $100 million to negative a thousand, what does that do to a man who’s got children and expenses?” Vick: “Make you stronger. Make you hungrier. Feel that pressure of now I really got to go do the right thing. So it was funny when I seen it, it was hilarious. It’s like, yo, now we really can say we started from the bottom again. Now let’s see what God take us”

Arnold Schwarzenegger says he advertised himself as a masonry expert, something he knew nothing about. Then the LA earthquake hit, and it made him rich "So I said, 'Franco, we should start a business.' We put an ad in the LA Times, 'Italian and European masonry experts' and I didn't know anything about it. So we put the ad… and the next day, after the ad came out, we had the earthquake in Los Angeles. I mean, can you think about that?" "And all of a sudden everyone called us: 'Oh my God, you've got to come over, you've got to rebuild our chimney, rebuild our patio, the patio's got a big crack, the wall's got a big crack, the wall around our house fell down..."

They took me back in a Brink’s truck to Caesars” “I had the whole top floor at Caesars, and you know how much a million dollars is in cash, in hundreds. I had nowhere to hold the money, and I was damn sure I wasn’t going to leave my whole million dollars in one room” “My stepdad, rest in peace, he didn’t leave the room after I won. You felt they slapped you in your face by not giving you what you had earned up until that point, made you play, put you and your family at risk, and then once you come out on the other side, they say, “Dawg, we knew you could do it, here you go, bro” Adams: “And then, but the biggest thing was that I didn’t hear anything after that. So I basically was already la-la-la-la-la, you know, once the season ended. But there was no follow-up, there wasn’t a lot of talks going on. I didn’t know, there was nothing for almost two months” “And I’m thinking, okay, well, I must just be a regular dude to them, so I’m about to go. And then they think that, you know, tagging me was the next op, after basically playing for Lloyd’s on the tag the year before that. So I’m like, this is obviously not it” “And they was, I don’t know if they was calling my bluff, or just, you know, whatever the idea was, but it just wasn’t working for me. So I just had to plug my ears before I heard a number that made my ass want to stay” Shannon: “And ‘cause you’d heard that number first, like, ‘Okay, I forgive y’all’, hold on, you said what?” Adams: “I just said, ‘Look, we’re going to nip this in the bud, this is what I think is best.’ You know, it end up working out for the Packers, they got a couple good players out of it as well. Michael Phelps says he made $1,000,000 in one week from a single bonus clause his sponsor probably regrets writing “Once I turned pro, my contract was set up that if I swam faster, I get paid more. If I break more world records, if I win more gold medal, if you give me an incentive, I’m going to show you it’s going to happen” “So fast forward to 2008, I received $1,000,000 from an old sponsor. He refused, fixed it in 3 days with no surgery, and played till 45 “After the season, I tell the doctor, My groin’s just really sore all the time. Every time I move, I can feel it just grab” “And the team doctor says, This is what we’re going to do. We’re also going to cut the other side, so it never becomes a problem” “And I was like, Okay, that sounds not like what I want to do” “I called Alex when I left the office. I said, Alex, the doctor told me to do this adductor release. What do you think? He said, Absolutely not. Gary Payton says Michael Jordan lied in ‘The Last Dance’ and he has the numbers to prove it Jordan: “The glove. I had no problem with the glove. I had no problem with Gary Payton. I had a lot of other things on my mind” GP: “It’s his documentary. He can say whatever he want to, but as we look at the numbers, he was averaging 30 and then he started averaging 23. So if he had no problems with me, I surely didn’t have no problems with him, because he couldn’t guard me as well” “We’re competitive, and he said what he said. I wouldn’t even respect him if he said anything less than that. Everybody knows the outcome, it changed after Game 3. So I have no problems with that”
