Citadel has bought most of the roughly $16 billion public-stock portfolio of Leopold Aschenbrenner’s AI hedge fund, Situational Awareness, after its leveraged tech bets suffered heavy losses. Citadel did not buy Aschenbrenner or the entire fund. Situational Awareness is keeping its private investments, including an Anthropic position valued at around $5 billion. This is classic Ken Griffin. When Enron collapsed in 2001, Griffin sent 16 Citadel employees to Houston to find the people who had actually created value inside the company. Citadel hired Enron’s quantitative research leadership. Griffin later said the commodities business built from that team generated roughly $30 billion. In 2008, Citadel itself lost half its equity in just 16 weeks. Griffin called those losses “tuition.” Now another hedge fund needs liquidity, and Citadel is taking the other side. Citadel Securities is a separate company, but its massive market-making infrastructure gives Griffin’s ecosystem the liquidity and execution capacity to absorb positions few firms can handle. Ken Griffin does not wait for panic to end. He buys what panic forces others to sell. Check out his interview below to see his thought process.

Elon Musk just gave the clearest AI timeline we’ve heard so far. In under 10 minutes he lays out: 1) AI surpasses all human intelligence in ~5 years 2) Humans most likely lose control within 10 years 3) Most probable outcome: an age of amazing abundance 4) “Even if there was a stop button — we probably shouldn’t press it” This is denser and more direct than most hour-long podcasts on the topic. If you still think AI is “just another tool”, this 10-minute segment will recalibrate you.
