Last year, the UK government announced that its last spy flight over Gaza to gather intelligence for Israel had been on 10 October 2025 Yet the US-subcontracted plane they had secretly rented to do it from July 2024 is still stationed at RAF Akrotiri, the UK airbase on Cyprus, more than 3 months later The UK Ministry of Defence claimed it privatised its spy-for-Israel programme because there was a "shortage" of RAF planes. But the RAF has 8 of these Shadow R1 planes - which had been sufficient for 18 months of operations - so this made little sense But, now, the US-subcontracted plane is flying other spy missions from RAF Akrotiri. The flight below, on January 10, flew over Israel, West Bank and Jordan before turning off its transponder as it approached Iraq. Could it have been on its way to Iran? No one is allowed to know But the question is: why is the UK military still using a private American spy plane when it has its own fleet? And more: why is the Labour government refusing to say how much the contract for the American spy plane is costing the UK taxpayer?
