At tonight’s public hearing, there were numerous individuals obstructing Council business. It is clear that this is foreign interference. Only those affected by land use decisions should speak before Council, not those calling in from Southern California. We will be reporting this immediately to the appropriate authorities for a proper investigation. I have organized an emergency meeting with the City Manager, VPD Chief Steve Rai and other relevant officials to discuss immediate actions to protect our democratic institutions.

It was great to stand with the ABC Vancouver team today to speak directly about how we are going to make the Park Board work for Vancouverites once again. We've been hearing the frustration about the way the Park Board and its facilities are managed. Vancouver deserves better. An ABC majority on Park Board will focus on delivering new community centres, safe parks, free swimming lessons, affordable recreation programs, and accessible public swimming pools. The COVID-era restrictions that still make no sense at Kits Pool are indicative of a much greater problem. Swimming should be accessible for everyone. Residents and families shouldn’t have to compete online or plan weeks in advance just to enjoy a public pool. The choice in this election is clear: an ABC majority that will deliver better facilities, more affordable programs, and long-overdue reforms, or candidates who support the status quo on Park Board and have contributed to years of ineffective management. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

Award-winning Salon Origins owner Denise Meikle shared with Mayor Ken Sim the reality of operating a business next to a drug consumption site. Denise spoke about the impact on her clients, her staff, and even her suppliers—many of whom became hesitant to come into the neighbourhood because of ongoing safety concerns. She also shared the personal toll it takes. Running a business in the midst of ongoing disorder wasn’t just hard financially—it was emotionally exhausting. No small business owner should have to carry that burden simply for opening their doors each day. Businesses shouldn’t have to worry about whether customers, employees, suppliers, or contractors feel safe coming to work. ABC Vancouver will continue to stand up for Vancouver residents and small businesses by opposing the Province’s failed drug policies and fighting for safer streets, real treatment, and neighbourhoods where people and businesses can thrive. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordability

Today, the opposition voted against unlocking 4,100 new rental homes for Vancouverites. This was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to seriously address affordability by building thousands of homes for middle income folks while creating tens of millions in non-tax revenue for parks, community centres, and infrastructure - all at no cost to taxpayers. Today's vote shows Vancouverites that ABC is the only party focused on real solutions for housing and affordability.

Today, after Canada's historic win and halfway through the World Cup, I'm proud to be joined by our Police Chief Steve Rai, Fire Chief Karen Fry, and City Manager Donny van Dyk for one simple reason: to say thank you for the way you've celebrated throughout the entire World Cup so far, and especially after Canada's historic win on Sunday. Over the past several weeks, Vancouver has welcomed the world. Our streets have been full of families, fans, visitors, and local businesses enjoying an incredible World Cup. What has stood out most isn't just the excitement—it's the way people have looked out for one another and celebrated safely. We've seen minimal police incidents throughout the World Cup, and I want to sincerely thank everyone for making that possible. To everyone who has come downtown, visited Fan Fest, and other public viewing areas—thank you for keeping things respectful. To the Vancouver Police Department, Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, City staff, volunteers, event organizers, businesses, and everyone working behind the scenes – thank you for making this World Cup such a safe, exciting, and memorable event. As we head into the second half of the World Cup, I'm excited for us all to keep this going. Canada has made it to the round of 16, so let's keep cheering them on in the same safe way we've celebrated throughout this tournament. We’re all here today to simply say thank you, Vancouver. And if you see a city worker cleaning streets or a police officer and firefighter keeping things safe, reach out to them and say thank you. Let’s keep this going, Go Canada Go.

Vancouverites deserve a summertime fireworks celebration. At City Hall, we were incredibly disappointed to learn of the cancellation of the 2026 Celebration of Light. The Celebration of Light is not an ordinary concert or festival, it’s the largest community event in BC. It’s free, it’s family friendly, and a significant contributor to the local economy. That's why I'm excited to be bringing forward a motion to Council that will see the City of Vancouver dedicate $2 million towards a one time, one night fireworks celebration in Summer 2026! This week, opposition councillors blocked a decision that would've unlocked 4,100+ housing units for Vancouverites while creating a new non-tax revenue source that could have gone towards funding city services and critical infrastructure. To say their decision was shortsighted and irresponsible would be an understatement. We won't lose sight of the important goals here. Our focus is, and will always be, on delivering housing, affordability, and fiscal responsibility for the people of Vancouver.

We're investing $104 million over the next four years to improve roads and sidewalks across Vancouver. This will allow for the complete upgrade of 15 to 20 arterial corridors, 800 blocks of local roads, and 28km of sidewalks. The funds represent a ‘Maximum Delivery Capacity’ scenario and a 204% increase over the previous administration’s $34 million allocation. This move is just one of the ways we’re focusing on the core services Vancouverites rely on every day.

We're excited to be moving forward with piloting VanStat, a new operational system that breaks down silos between City departments to deliver a more efficient, effective City Hall. VanStat is built off of CompStat, an evidence-based reporting program used to identify challenges and improve accountability through data and cross-department collaboration. VanStat will ensure City resources are deployed where they're needed the most.

As we look back at 2025, Vancouver has a lot to be proud of. Our city is on the right track and thanks to the ABC majority on Council, we've seen significant progress made over the last year: ✅ Falling crime rates across the board with the City seeing its lowest violent crime rate in 23 years. ✅ Approval of a zero percent property tax increase with a renewed focus on core services. ✅ Significantly reduced wait times for permitting and approvals, helping deliver more homes, faster. We're proud to be delivering a City Hall that is efficient, effective, and focused on the issues that matter most for Vancouverites. As we look to the year ahead, our focus will continue to be on finding ways to make Vancouver a safer, more affordable, and more vibrant place to call home. When our team was elected, we promised to get more help to people in crisis. Through our investments in expanded mental health services, more than 8,000 people were supported in 2025 through programs like Car 87/88, the Mobile De-escalation Team, and the province’s first Indigenous Crisis Response Team.
