Today, the opposition voted against unlocking 4,100 new rental homes for Vancouverites. This was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to seriously address affordability by building thousands of homes for middle income folks while creating tens of millions in non-tax revenue for parks, community centres, and infrastructure - all at no cost to taxpayers. This week, opposition councillors blocked a decision that would've unlocked 4,100+ housing units for Vancouverites while creating a new non-tax revenue source that could have gone towards funding city services and critical infrastructure. We're investing $104 million over the next four years to improve roads and sidewalks across Vancouver. This will allow for the complete upgrade of 15 to 20 arterial corridors, 800 blocks of local roads, and 28km of sidewalks. The funds represent a ‘Maximum Delivery Capacity’ scenario and a 204% increase over the previous administration’s $34 million allocation. This move is just one of the ways we’re focusing on the core services Vancouverites rely on every day.
