My experience with Muay Thai, Thailand's iconic sport, earlier this year offered a fitting preview of the 2026 Annual Meetings. With its vibrant energy, technological advancements, and rich cultural heritage, Thailand is well positioned to seize new opportunities.

It was a privilege to welcome President Ahmad al-Sharaa to the IMF. We discussed the economic transformation Syrians need &amp; deserve—which his government is making possible. I reiterated IMF's readiness to help including through our existing technical support for key institutions.

After more than three decades, our Annual Meetings return to Thailand this October. A powerful opportunity to reconnect, strengthen partnerships, and drive progress for people everywhere.

It’s that time of year when all our 191 members come together in Washington DC. Our goal: to listen, to learn, and to lead with purpose. Only by working together can we foster growth and opportunity for all. Welcome to the #IMFMeetings.

Thank you, Greece, for becoming the newest partner of our capacity development work. As I told FM Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Greece has come a long way: from a country needing support to now able to help others. It will contribute to SEETAC, strengthening economic institutions in SE Europe.

Very productive meeting with 🇰🇪 President William Samoei Ruto, PhD on Kenya's economic outlook, and the reform agenda ahead. We discussed the efforts to strengthen fiscal sustainability, boost resilience, and drive inclusive growth that benefits all Kenyans.

The war in the Middle East has disrupted oil and gas flows. But the impact is far from even. Energy exporters face smaller headwinds, while countries hit by conflict or reliant on imports bear the greatest costs. The chart shows why policy space matters.
