Notice what’s missing from El-Sayed’s bizarre and dismissive answer on gender ideology in sports: Girls and women. He doesn’t mention them once. Nothing about their right to fairness, opportunity, or safety on the playing field. Nothing about their right to privacy in locker rooms. He calls the whole issue “manufactured,” caused by parents wanting to protect their kids from exposure to certain information. But this isn’t an information problem. It’s a reality problem. Just this weekend, a boy took yet another top spot in a cross-country meet in Washington state. Unless SCOTUS acts, our client Kallie Keeler will soon miss the start of her wrestling season because Washington won’t protect her from facing a male opponent, even after she was sexually assaulted by one during a match last year. Girls in blue states are continually being bumped from rosters, pushed down leaderboards, denied scholarships, and forced to change in bathroom stalls—all to make way for boys who say they are girls. We didn’t invent any of this. It’s happening. There are only two ways to conclude that this issue is “manufactured”: 1) being willfully ignorant of the facts, OR 2) believing that women and girls just don’t matter.

Ben Sasse has an impressive resume. But the rarest and most impressive thing about him is his deep faith—a faith on transparent display in the months since his terminal cancer diagnosis. So I couldn’t be more grateful for the priceless gift of Ben’s time, generously shared in a recorded conversation for our Blackstone Fellows. We talked about Christian life, marriage, career, and ministry—and what it will take for the Republic to survive. It was one of the most memorable conversations of my life. Yes, because the content is rich. But even more so because of the profound power of his testimony in a season of unfathomable hardship.

Alliance Defending Freedom helped Rapides Parish (LA) school district sue USDA over this policy. It was resolved when Trump took office & rescinded the Biden policy. I’m grateful for this model of a civil discussion from both sides.
