Kendrick Perkins say Utah is one of his least favorite NBA road trips, largely because everything shuts down early and the city feels like a "ghost town" by 9 PM Gary Owen : When you get the NBA schedule, what city do you least want to see? Kendrick Perkins : If you’re not playing in New York, that’s the first city you circle because you want to go. Gary Owen : So where don’t you want to go? Sacramento? Kendrick Perkins : Sac’s cool. I’d say Utah. Gary Owen : Really? Kendrick Perkins : Yeah. Everything shuts down by like 9 PM. It’s a ghost town. One time I was there with Glen Davis. He wanted to go to a club. We got there, and it wasn’t even a club. It was just a bar that only served beer. Then we ran into referee Bill Kennedy just sitting there having a drink. I was like, “Yeah… I’m going back to the hotel.” Gary Owen : So you didn’t like Utah? Guest 2: I’m gonna stay quiet on that one. Gary Owen : You liked playing there? Richard Jefferson: Actually, yeah. There wasn’t much to do except basketball, so the arena was always packed. I was happy as long as I could find a good steakhouse and a casino. Gary Owen : So what’s the worst city? Richard Jefferson : Due to my contractual agreements, I’m not saying anything negative about any city. Kendrick Perkins : I don’t even think about the bottom cities. The ones I looked forward to were New York, Miami, LA, Chicago, and Toronto. A lot of guys hated Oklahoma City too, but I played there, so I liked it. My teammates used to call it a “truck stop ass city.”

Rasheed Wallace says no defensive game plan actually worked against prime Shaquille O’Neal because he was simply too dominant. Carmelo Anthony : What was the scouting report for guarding Shaq? Rasheed Wallace : The goal was simple. Don’t let him get a post-up dunk. Force him over his right shoulder and send the double team from the right spot. We’d try everything. Double from the baseline, the middle, anywhere we could. We had whole game plans built around getting the ball out of his hands. It didn’t matter. Shaq would crack you in the mouth and keep going. At that time he was 7-foot-2, around 340 pounds, could run the floor, and was the best athlete on the planet. People forget how scary that combination was. I took so many elbows guarding him. None of them were dirty, that’s just what happened when you played against him. The refs actually let defenders be way more physical with Shaq because they figured it would take more than a little arm slap to affect him. That’s part of why he got so frustrated and started throwing elbows back. Then teams started using Hack-a-Shaq, and I know he wanted to fight a lot of people over that. Monica McNutt : People compare Victor Wembanyama to Shaq because both change how teams have to defend. Do you think that’s fair? Rasheed Wallace : No. Victor is a great player, but it’s different. Shaq outweighed most guys by 80 pounds or more. If your center got in foul trouble and you had to switch onto him, you were in trouble. There were times I’d be the first big back on defense, see Shaq sealing in the paint, and immediately tell him, “Big fella, I’m about to foul you.” I wasn’t trying to be tough. I just didn’t want to catch one of those angry elbows. Prime Shaq was unlike anything else. Guarding him was survival.

I never felt comfortable exposing myself that way.” “It wasn’t a moral issue, and I never judged anyone else for doing it. Jonah Hill says Martin Scorsese used a genius psychological trick to help him nail a scene in The Wolf of Wall Street. “The first scene I auditioned with was Donnie’s intro scene at the diner. I had been preparing for it for almost an entire year.” “We shot it, did a few takes, and Scorsese was happy. I was so relieved.” “Then we had to shoot the next scene, which wasn't even really scripted. It was just one or two lines of me quitting my job.” “We did it again, and again, and again.
