A magnificent 4.6-carat old Asscher, flanked by triple baguette shoulders and crafted in France circa 1925. Upon Victoria’s death in 1901, the tiara passed to Queen Alexandra, who mistrusted opals and swiftly replaced them with rubies to ward off what she believed was ill fortune. Curiously, despite its royal status, there are no known photographs or portraits of Queen Alexandra or Queen Mary wearing the piece. It made only the most occasional appearances with Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and later with Queen Elizabeth II, sightings so rare they almost feel mythical.
