This is a pregnant wild jumping spider with DKS, Dyskinetic Syndrome. She will most likely not survive. This is what happens with the use of pesticides. Her nervous system is misfiring, leading to uncontrollable movements and confusion. She cannot stay upright, only able to lay on her back. She cannot use her mouth parts correctly. In the wild, she would be dead by the end of the day. She has a small chance of recovery, I’ve misted her to help remove the pesticides and given her a 1:4 sugar water mixture to hydrate her and help her regain her strength. Now all i can do is let her rest and hope. Please opt for non pesticide solutions. The poison doesn’t just get rid of “pests”, it kills our spiders and pollinators. It’s killing our world.

Scientists have discovered a new spider called the Ballista Spider and its the most insane thing ive ever seen. It creates a tiny spring loaded lure for a specific type of aggressive tree ant, covering the lure in pheromones, and when the ant bites the lure it cuts the thin webbing holding it and launches the ant into the air at 1,300 meters per second squared, and into its web high above the other ants. Which is absolutely crazy. Not only is it one of the only spiders ever to use extremely elastic webbing to create a spring loaded trap specifically meant to be triggered by the prey, but it is one of the only spiders ever to adapt its entire hunting system for one specific type of prey! It also has the strongest and most elastic webbing we’ve ever seen, because the ants have have special feet that firmly stick them to surfaces, so the web has to be able to launch an ant with strength of multiple times the ants body weight!!

Sort of! Jumping spider eyes arent like human eyes where they have an orb or eyeball. The round part that we see is a fixed lens that cannot move, but under the lens of the primary front eyes are telescope-like eye tubes and retinas that can go side to side, up and down, and rotate! Their side eyes are stationary and don’t move. Heres a really cool video that shows how the eyes move inside!

This is called a Bat Fly, and they cling exclusively to bats while feeding on their blood. There are actually 274 species of bat fly! Some have wings too! But most all of them are wingless and blind. However, i think the coolest and weirdest thing is that the females have a uterus! Most bugs lay eggs outside their body, but female bat flies produce a single egg inside their uterus that they nourish with essentially a bug milk while it goes through all its developmental stages, until RIGHT before they pupate into a full bat fly. When thats about to happen, the female will leave the host bat and give birth to the larvae in the dirt, where it has its final pupation and becomes an adult bat fly. I just think thats wild lol
