A couple of things stand out, even through just a few individual drills with Jared Verse. Extremely good “get-off.” His reaction time is fantastic. The next thing that stands out, even on bags and coaches, is his violent hands. His hands are always in the chest plate of the offensive tackle. I think being a five technique end might unleash Verse because it’s just pin your ears back and go. Very impressive young man. #Browns

Joe Royer is really fun to watch at practice. Very workmanlike approach. Not flashy, just consistent. He’s savvy in his routes, understands angles and leverage, and works at his craft through every period, individual, 7 on 7, and team. Just a steady, dependable football player who will be a really good addition to that tight end room. #Browns

Coming off multiple Achilles injuries, Deshaun Watson looked light on his feet, moved well laterally, and stayed calm in the pocket. Ball still jumps off his hand. Health looks good. Nothing matters until Sundays, but that was a solid start. #Browns

Mendoza checks a lot of boxes that NFL evaluators really value. He’s tough as nails. He can function inside the pocket and make plays outside of it, even though his feet aren’t elite. He consistently hits the layups. He understands where the easiest throw is and takes it. That matters. He’s played well against high level competition and he’s just a football player. He finds ways to make plays. The production is outstanding, but what really stands out are the traits that don’t always show up on a stat sheet. Those are the things NFL teams tend to fall in love with.

The 49ers run a SIM pressure with Cover 1 behind it. This is a miss from Sanders in the first window due to poor footwork. As he drops, he slides to his right with too many small steps, which causes him to be late to Jeudy. Jeudy wins inside the flat defender, who ends up being the drop end, and the ball should be out right there. He also has Judkins available on the checkdown if he comes off it on time. #Browns

Here’s the TD from Sanders to Njoku. Cleveland runs a scissors concept. When Fannin shifts to the wing and Sanders sees Hooker’s extreme outside leverage, he should know the short seam to Fannin will be there. Instead, Hooker jumps Njoku too and Njoku ends up double-teamed with no one on Fannin. Technically the wrong read, but an unreal throw with touch and accuracy. Next time the easy one is the seam. This is why it’s always players over plays. #Browns

Schwartz with a really cool simulated pressure vs the Dolphins. Schwesinger shows his feet to the center, forcing him to look left first. As he drops, Mason Graham angles down from his wide 3-tech, tying up the guard and center. Delpit comes free through the B-gap for the sack. #Browns

The #Browns defensive line is the engine. It dictates protection, hides coverage issues, flips games without blitzing, and travels every week. You don’t casually replace that. Keep this unit together as long as possible. Everything on defense works better because of them.

Really nice job here from Sanders and Fannin Jr. Fannin runs the wheel as Jeudy occupies both the corner and safety with his post route, with the 49ers in Cover 4. Sanders does a great job delivering the ball on time into the window, and Fannin throttles down perfectly to keep the safety and corner from recovering back into the play. Excellent execution by both guys on this touchdown. #Browns

Dillon Gabriel plays with incredible poise and confidence. Skillset translates to the NFL very well. Throws well from all launch points. Solid movement skills. Quick decisions. Lots of experience at a high level. High-level anticipation and accuracy. #Browns
