If Lucy Powell thinks no young girl should be forced to wear a hijab at school then she must intervene. It is utterly wrong that a taxpayer funded school has a published uniform policy to make it compulsory for 7 year old Muslim girls to wear a hijab.

5 years ago today, hundreds of Islamists gathered outside Batley Grammar School after a teacher showed a picture of the Prophet Muhammad in a lesson. He was threatened & forced into hiding. 5 years on he is sadly STILL in hiding. This is appalling. We must fight for free speech.

I reject the notion that we’ve have had an “over focus on academic outcomes.” That over focus has improved outcomes for so many children & resulted in English pupils climbing up international league tables for reading, maths and science. We must raise the bar for all children.

Over the moon that the Gvt has finally listened & u-turned. This victory belongs to the brave bereaved parents fighting to protect other people's children, the health professionals who spoke out, & the parents who made their voices heard. Together, we did not give up. Today is a huge step forward for protecting childhood & backing parents, so they do not have to fight big tech & screens alone.

Over the moon that the Gvt has finally listened & u-turned.
