Asked Derrick Jones Jr. how the Clippers defense can be better than the 18th-ranked unit from last season DJ mentioned that LAC "didn't lock in on the game plan a lot last year" and didn't "guard to our best abilities, myself included" Added that "it's tough to have a louder voice than Brook (Lopez)" to carry that message of being better.

On one hand, Quentin Grimes has been incredibly efficient this preseason, shooting 53.3% FGs, 41.2% 3s, 90.9% FTs On the other, he has more turnovers (12) than assists (10) with only 1 rebound in a team-high 97 minutes I asked Grimes about playing so often without Luka Doncic and/or Austin Reaves so far this preseason

I asked Pat Riley if he were coaching today, would he bring the Armanis back or would he have a quarter zip/polo Riley: "I never change muchโฆ I wish they went back to coats and ties. I think an audience wants to see somebody on the sideline who looks like a leaderโฆ"

Asked Quentin Grimes about balancing offensive responsibilities "I know we got two of the best on-ball players in the game. So just being able to play off-ball, and also JJ wants guys who can pass, dribble, and shoot. And I feel like we have a lot of guys on this team that can do that."

Asked JJ Redick about what he envisions from the Lakers offense given the changes they need to account for JJ mentioned how not having LeBron James to play through and not having Rui Hachimura in the midrange will be unaccounted losses. But JJ expects the Lakers to touch more paint, shoot more 3s, and get more 2nd chances

Asked JJ Redick about the competition for spots in training camp and balancing that with keeping the team together JJ said that it's about creating competition, not finding a balance, since guys are committed to each other. He used Max Christie as an example Redick: "This is a meritocracy. If anybody tells you otherwise, it's bullshit"

Asked Jeff Van Gundy what it's like to be a "defensive coordinator" in basketball, when in reality JVG contributes more than that Some gems in there, like his perspective on how 38% 3-point shooters miss 62 out of 100 3s. And an easter egg at the end of the clip on tanking lol

Asked Keaton Wagler about adjusting to a game with this summer league team and the difference between the Clippers lineups tonight compared to his Illinois team from last season "Last year at Illinois, we kind of just had five shooters all around and we always popped on screens and now it's kind of all rolls. So that's just like I think the biggest difference"

Asked Bennedict Mathurin about the next game: at home against the Indiana Pacers, the team that drafted him in 2022 and traded him last month Mathurin: "Pretty much, pure love, you know what I'm saying? I was 20 years old when I got drafted over there.โฆ it's going to be fun"

Cam Christie playing his third summer league I asked him about his approach to this one, and he said that he's just trying to win, while adding "I just want to show teams that I'm an NBA player, and just go from there" The Clippers agreed to move Christie's guarantee date to July 20, so he is trying to show LAC something as well as every other team

Kawhi Leonard not one to talk about awards But not only did he vouch for Kris Dunn to be on All-Defense, he was very disappointed to learn that NBA will not allow Dunn to be eligible because of the minutes threshold Dunn played 20+ min. in 53 of his 74 games (h/t Tomer Azarly)
