Today, I joined CBC News to discuss how our federal government is prioritizing public safety and taking action to protect communities from violence like what we saw on Saturday. We’re doing it by restricting bail for violent offenders, toughening sentencing for gun violence and investing in enhanced border security to stop illegal guns from reaching Canada. In addition to our landmark 6 new crime bills and 80 changes to the Criminal Code, we are committed to ensuring law enforcement have the tools they need to keep families safe across Canada.

Let’s be clear: Bill C-9, The Combatting Hate Act, is the anti-hate legislation that communities and law enforcement across Canada are asking for. Our government remains willing to work across the aisle to look for constructive improvements to this Bill. What we will not accept are endless delays and Conservative tactics designed to dodge a vote on this bill. I made a promise to my constituents to stand up for them and pass laws to fight back against hate immediately. Canadians want action- it’s time for Conservative members to get on board.

For everyone anxious to see progress on fighting hate in our communities and crime across the country, this type of delay is unacceptable: Conservative Andrew Lawton is filibustering the Justice Committee and demanding weeks of delay to our C-9 hate crime bill. The Jewish community in Toronto–St. Paul’s has faced immense pain and fear since October 7th, with a rise in antisemitism at home. It’s unacceptable. As your MP, I’ll fight to ensure families feel safe, confront hatred, and protect schools, community centres, and synagogues.

Today, Statistics Canada latest numbers show that our economy is on the right track: 📈54,000 NEW JOBS added to our economy last month 📈 Average wages in Canada GREW by 3.6% since November 2024 📉 Canada’s unemployment rate DROPPED to 6.5% 📉 Average rents in Toronto DROPPED 3.9% There’s lots more work to do but one thing is clear: our plan to grow the economy and make life more affordable is working.
