The Welsh lizards that live in our garden wall love a bit of coal and slate because it soaks up the sunshine and gives them warmth. Here’s a pregnant female from last summer and I know lots of you will say “ oh don’t anthropomorphise” but she’s smiling as far as I’m concerned 😉

Today I’m working on a painting of my mother sleeping the last part of her life away. Randomly her favourite folk song comes up on my music while I’m painting. Then a butterfly flies into my studio. I have to take a moment because I’ve just realised fully that this is my way of saying goodbye. I’m painting my goodbye to a woman who can’t see anymore and for the first time I shed a tear or two. We are all so bloody fragile aren’t we?

Take a moment to remember the good things in life; It’s a hard thing to do for sure, when it feels like everything in the world is tipping this way and that. Maybe this little mouse can help you connect with “la vie en rose” & if so, then my job as an artist is done for today 🩷

There are lots of different kinds of wild bees that live on our farmland. One of my favourites is the leaf cutter. If you’ve ever wondered what happens to all those little circles of leaf cut from your garden here’s a clip of film I took when this nest was found in a shed here

I whistle to the lizards that live on my garden wall when I walk past them to my studio. It’s a ten step commute to work. That way they know it’s me & don’t get frightened & rush away. I whistle You are my sunshine. They seem to like it & who knows maybe the sun might even appear

Take a moment to reset your mind and contemplate my simple little artwork of a mouse. All creatures have their place in the world. They have their own unique and magical presence and we should take care of them all.

I illustrated and wrote a rough copy of a tiny book. Now I just need to find someone crazy enough to publish it. Then I could afford to take the time to do the finished artwork…….any takers?

Just walked into my studio on a beautiful sunny morning and felt compelled to say how totally grateful I am to be here. After a life full of ups & downs this is my happy ending. Hang on in there because there were days when I felt like checking out permanently & I’m glad I didn’t

Probably not X appropriate as it’s not angry or political but for anyone who might need a moment of calm here’s what I’m working on today. It’s not finished by a long chalk but it’s been a peaceful morning in the studio & for that I am truly grateful.
