🚨 WATCH: This is such a breath of fresh air. Badenoch: cut welfare to pay for defence. Andy Burnham : yes, bring the welfare bill down, by tackling WHY it is so high. Build council homes instead of paying billions in housing benefit to cover expensive rents. Help young people into education and work instead of abandoning them. Fix the problem, don’t punish the people suffering from it. This is what “problem-solving not point-scoring” actually looks like.

🚨 THE £72 MILLION DEAD CAT Look 👀 what has happened to the news cycle. Days ago we were watching this extraordinary Channel 4 Verbatim undercover footage about Reform, political polling and alleged attempts to circumvent donation rules, allegations now being investigated by the Metropolitan Police. Then BANG 💥 &36m from one crypto billionaire. 💥 Another £36m from another. Suddenly everyone is talking about the record-breaking £72m, whether Reform can keep it, donation caps and Labour changing the law. The scandal has been replaced by the story of the money. This Flush Fund is now Britain’s biggest political dead cat. But don’t forget what was on the table before the cat landed: the 👇 Channel 4 footage.

🚨 THIS is how Reform’s £72 MILLION Flush Fund will flood UK Polly Mackenzie brilliantly explains the power of political microtargeting. We saw it during Brexit: different groups of voters could be identified online and sold completely contradictory versions of what Brexit would deliver. Worried about immigration and the NHS? Target that. Believe EU freedom of movement discriminated against Commonwealth and Asian migration? Target that. Same campaign. Different promise. Different voter. And Brexit ultimately produced something rather different: EU migration fell while non-EU migration rose dramatically. Now imagine what Reform can do with £72 MILLION from two billionaires, poured into Facebook, TikTok, X and other digital campaigning. This isn’t simply a war chest for posters and leaflets. It buys the ability to find your grievance and sell you the version of Reform designed specifically for you. That is the power of the Flush Fund.

🚨 WATCH: Laura Kuenssberg dismantles Nigel Farage’s latest defence Farage on a meeting discussing potentially enormous donations: “I frankly wasn’t even listening.” Then: “I know donation law better than anybody.” Then he categorically guarantees foreign money has NEVER been funnelled to Reform in the manner alleged. Laura: How can you know that when you’ve just admitted you weren’t listening? Farage: “I’m not a compliance officer, I’m a leader. I shake hands and take photographs.” Laura: “You’re the leader, the buck stops with you.” Precisely. Farage has spent years presenting Reform as the tightly controlled political machine he created. All-powerful CEO when taking the credit. Mr Bean when anyone asks who was minding the shop. You can’t have it both ways.

Trump says the decision to bomb Iran came after advice from Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff and Pete Hegseth. A real estate developer. A television host. And the president’s son-in-law. Not intelligence chiefs. Not military command. The Middle East 🔥 and the global economy now lives with the consequences of that advice.

🚨 WOW! Support for rejoining the EU is at an all-time high. Sir John Curtice says that among those choosing between the two options: 🇪🇺 Rejoin: 61% 🇬🇧 Stay out: 39% That is the highest sustained level of support for rejoining since 2016 and it has happened despite political leaders barely making the case. Curtice says that if politicians offered arguments that were “anywhere halfway decent”, public support could rise further. Britain is ready. The politicians are frightened. Andy Burnham must end the conspiracy of silence, make the positive case for Europe and drop the Brexit red lines.

🚨 THIS IS NOW A NATIONAL FOOD SAFETY WARNING we warned was inevitable if we left the EU!!! The FSA is telling pregnant women, children under five, over-65s and vulnerable people not to eat runny eggs when eating out. Why? Bcunusually large and rapidly increasing Salmonella outbreak which investigators say may be linked to imported eggs used in restaurants and catering. One person dead. 207 confirmed cases. 38% hospitalised. Meanwhile the FSA says there is no evidence UK-produced eggs are affected. Britain spent decades building one of the safest egg systems in the world. Now thanks to Brexit freedoms vulnerable people are effectively being told: British Lion eggs at home are safe but be careful ordering a runny egg in a British restaurant because you may not know where that egg came from. How on earth is that progress? Food standards are not red tape. Border controls are not bureaucracy. Food security includes food safety.

This video is extraordinary to watch again now. In 2019, Jessica Simor KC explained to James O'Brien the constitutional paradox at the heart of Brexit: the referendum was advisory, so the courts would not quash the result, even though the legal challenge argued it had been tainted by proven unlawful campaigning. She told LBC that, had the referendum been legally binding, the result could have been set aside. So Britain was left with this absurd position: The referendum was not legally binding enough to be invalidated but it was treated politically as binding enough to take us out of the European Union. And that was not the only unresolved constitutional issue. My own 2018 judicial review, Webster v Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, challenged the missing Article 50(1) decision, the lawful decision to withdraw that had to precede notification. Parliament expressly authorised notification under Article 50(2), but never expressly enacted that antecedent decision. The courts refused permission in both cases. Now we are being told by the Prime Minister Andy Burnham that Russia interfered in the 2016 referendum. This changes the context again. It does not automatically undo Brexit. But it makes one thing impossible to avoid: Britain needs a statutory public inquiry into the referendum, the intelligence, and the Article 50 decision-making process. We need documents. Witnesses under oath. The Cabinet record. The intelligence assessments. The legal trail. Because ten years on, the question is no longer simply whether Brexit was right or wrong. It is whether the British public and Parliament were ever told the full truth about how it happened.

🎉 👏 Burnham has finally admitted that Brexit helped cause Britain’s decade of low growth. Good. But diagnosis without treatment is political theatre. You can’t rebuild 🇬🇧 industry while maintaining barriers to our largest market. Scrap the red lines, rejoin the single market and give the country a genuine growth strategy. There is still a gulf between diagnosis and delivery. Andy Burnham names Brexit as a cause of stagnation without yet committing to the single market or customs union. He promises public control without explaining ownership, financing or how profits will be prevented from leaking back to private investors. So this is considerably better than continuity Starmer but it remains a prospectus. The October Budget will reveal whether Burnham genuinely intends to rewire the economy or merely describe its failures more honestly.

🚨 So Nigel Farage hopes to win a by election in Clacton and escape scrutiny. Apparently the standards investigation does not automatically die. According to paragraph 40 of the Procedural Protocol to the MPs’ Code of Conduct: • The investigation would be suspended while he is no longer an MP. • If he wins the by-election and returns to Parliament, the investigation resumes. • Even if he loses, it could still be resumed. • The by-election result might influence any eventual sanction or rectification. This means a “chicken run” is not a clean escape. The donor scrutiny (Harborne £5m + Cottrell benefits) could still hang over him if he returns.

🚨 WATCH: This remarkable political intervention ‼️ On 19 October 1982, aged 88, former Conservative prime minister Harold Macmillan explained Britain’s future 👉 with startling accuracy. His complete message is therefore extraordinarily current: Britain cannot solve global economic problems alone. Europe gives it the power to shape events. Without that power it becomes America’s client. Technology can liberate humanity, but only if political leadership ensures that the wealth it creates is shared. A thread 🧵 1/10

‼️ Watching Sir Robin Knox-Johnston defend the RNLI on BBC Newsnight is deeply personal for me. I grew up in Porthcawl, the South Wales town whose seafront is shown whenever a great storm crashes into Britain. My mother chaired the local RNLI fundraising committee, fundraising for this cause is central to seaside communities. Many of our friends served volunteered as lifeguards and risked their lives regularly. Those of us who grow up beside the sea know its power. We know that when someone is in danger, you do not first ask where they were born, how they arrived or whether saving them is politically convenient. You launch the lifeboat. RNLI volunteers risk their own lives to save strangers. They do not make immigration policy and they do not control our borders. They answer distress calls and uphold the ancient law of the sea: a life in danger must be saved. For Suella Braverman to call this an “RNLI taxi service”, and for Reform and parts of the Conservative Party to turn lifeboat crews into political punchbags, is utterly disgraceful. Britain is an island nation shaped by the sea. For centuries, people arrived here and departed from here by boat. Courage, seamanship and going to the aid of those in peril are woven into our national character. Scapegoating lifeboat volunteers for saving drowning people is not patriotism. It is the absolute antithesis of being British.

This is dark Pope Leo XIV warns the post-WWII rule that bans invading other countries is being destroyed. While Keir Starmer stays silent and sucks up to Trump, even the Vatican is saying it out loud: might is replacing law and that puts everyone at risk. ⚠️

Former MI6 chief, Sir Alex Younger gives some Brexit truths. “Putin would’ve been absolutely delighted by our decision (to leave the EU) and so would Xi.” “Particularly since I've left office and I've travelled around Europe, I'm profoundly depressed. “Just nobody mentions the UK. We've made ourselves irrelevant. And this is extraordinary. The beginning part of this century, we were the dominant force. France has effectively eclipsed us and you just don't hear a discussion of us.” “I think Brexit has Brexit has marginalised us. It was kind of intended to do exactly that.”

👍🚨 Listen to Mark Carney dismantle the central Brexit myth! Canada 🇨🇦 is deepening its economic, defence, energy, industrial and research alliance with Europe because it will make both sides: “More sovereign, more resilient, more independent, as well as more prosperous.” Isolation is vulnerability. Sovereignty comes from trusted alliances, shared capabilities, alternative markets and the bargaining power to resist coercion. Canada has learnt that lesson from Trump. Brexit Britain still refuses to learn it.

🇳🇴 Norway took its oil wealth and built the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund — investing in pensions, healthcare, and the future. 🇬🇧 Britain sold ours off in the 1980s, handed control to private corporations, and spent the revenues on short-term tax cuts. 🔴 Today, Norway has one of the highest standards of living in the world — while the UK is stuck managing decline. 🔵 Thatcher’s Conservative govt was responsible for handing over control of North Sea oil to private corporations, dismantling public ownership, and prioritising free-market policies over long-term public wealth. Thatcher forfeited long-term public income from oil in favour of short-term privatisation proceeds and tax cuts. 🔴 Norway, by contrast, retained public control and built up the $1.6 trillion Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund from its oil wealth. The UK spent most of its oil revenues on general government spending during the 1980s, with little legacy investment.

🚨 ALASTAIR CAMPBELL 👏 Well said! “History will say the three key drivers of Brexit were David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.” “Nigel Farage helped inflict the very thing that has weakened our economy, weakened our standing in the world and damaged our confidence. The fact some people now think he should be Prime Minister is a form of madness.”

🇬🇧 There was something deeply ironic about the final moments of #BBCLauraK today. 🇬🇧 Britain broke from Europe with Brexit, a rupture with strange historical echoes of Henry VIII’s break with Rome. And today, the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster reminded us of “the value of the human person”. Of humanity. Families. The homeless. Our responsibility to each other. I am not a Catholic, but I went to a convent school until I was 13. I was educated in these values, they are familiar to me and comforting and above all grounding. And now Britain is about to have its first Catholic PM Andy Burnham In the last decade or so, we have lost sight of some of the most basic truths 👉Geography. Humanity. Honesty. Values. 🔥 Brexit taught us to deny our geography. 🔥 Populism taught us to divide people. 🔥 UK decided to live with dishonesty and lost sight of the value of the human person. My hopes now rest on Andy Burnham bringing those values back to government and Britain back to its rightful place in Europe and the world. People first. Place first. Humanity first. This is the change of direction Britain and Europe desperately needs.

🚨 This is extremely serious. Channel 4 News says undercover reporters have exposed an alleged scheme involving senior Reform UK figures to circumvent political-donation rules. A US company allegedly paid £32,500 for three polls commissioned by Reform, which subsequently generated national newspaper headlines, without Reform’s involvement being disclosed. Channel 4 reports Reform’s head of policy saying of one proposed arrangement: “We could easily get away with it.” A Farage aide allegedly described the polling as valuable “clandestine projects” because they didn’t appear in public records. The investigation then describes discussions about routing a proposed £500,000 from an American father through his UK-based son. A former chief executive of the Electoral Commission says there should now be a criminal investigation. Reform and those involved deny the allegations. This is no longer simply a political story about who funds Reform. It is now a question for the authorities.
