Starting today, San Francisco is going from having the longest permitting process to one of the shortest. This is a huge deal. I was proud to join Senator Senator Scott Wiener and pro-housing supporters to celebrate SB 423 going into effect, which will streamline the housing approval process in San Francisco, cutting through red tape and accelerating the construction of both affordable and market-rate housing. Under this new state law, we are going from getting housing approved in years to just months. This is about families, about workers, and about the next generation growing up here being a part of this city’s future. This is a significant step in our ongoing commitment to addressing the housing shortage and building a more inclusive city.

Riding high speed rail from Beijjing to Shanghai is an over 800 mile trip in just 4.5 hours, making the Shanghai Maglev the fastest train in the world. That’s over twice the distance to LA. Just imagine what high speed rail could do for California. It will connect our state and be a model for the rest of the country.

We’ve been working hard on public safety: •Approved funding to keep police officers working on our streets •Expanded City community ambassador programs •Invested resources for the DA to hire more prosecutors My upcoming budget delivers resources that builds on this work.

We have really good news to share. The Fillmore Safeway will stay open & extend services for this community, home to senior citizens & families, through early 2025. This gives us more time to explore what’s next for the site, including more housing & bringing a new grocery store.

We just opened San Francisco's newest attraction, Panorama Park, a beautiful outdoor space that features unmatched views of San Francisco from Yerba Buena Island and the stunning 'Point of Infinity' sculpture by Hiroshi Sugimoto. This park marks the latest milestone in the Treasure Island Project which will transform the area into a vibrant neighborhood, featuring 8,000 new homes and 300 acres of open space. With this incredible weather we are having, I hope you will make time to come and discover the best new view in San Francisco!

Our police department is suffering from staffing shortages and officers are working overtime to fill shifts and keep residents safe. I am introducing a funding measure to fund more overtime so San Francisco Police can provide the critical services our residents deserve.

On housing, we’re changing SF into a city of yes. Yes to lowering fees, removing barriers, and making it easier to build homes for families, young people, workers, and seniors. But there’s one No I commit to — I will veto any anti-housing legislation that comes across my desk.

The future of Downtown San Francisco just got a huge boost from the Biden Administration. Thanks to advocacy from our Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, the federal government announced a new investment of $3.4 billion in the Portal, our transit center, to bring Caltrain — and eventually High Speed Rail — into the heart of our Downtown. With plans for 11 transit systems within and around the center, this investment isn’t just a commitment to the future of transportation in our city, region, and state, it’s a commitment to a thriving future for San Francisco. It’s a sign of what we can do when we work together and think big about what’s possible. The future of San Francisco and California is High Speed Rail, and the Portal in our Downtown is where that future will live.

Overnight, our City Hall was defaced with racist and sexist slurs. This hateful act is a painful reminder of the work we still need to do. Like many, I confront this kind of hate almost every day online. But I want to be clear, this disgusting racism and sexism isn’t just about me, it hurts everyone in our city. And while someone attempted to stain our community with racist vitriol and hatred, stains can be lifted. These are the moments when San Francisco demonstrates that our city and people cannot, and will not, be intimidated.

Our retail theft blitz operations by San Francisco Police officers is delivering results. Plainclothes & uniformed officers working with retailers in 40 operations have made over 300 arrests. Our SF DISTRICT ATTORNEY has followed that with prosecutions. This is how we target and reduce theft in SF.

Excited to announce California's first ever Entertainment Zone right here in San Francisco! Under my legislation, the City's first Entertainment Zone will be on Front Street in Downtown SF, allowing local bars and restaurants to sell drinks and participate in outdoor events on this street, boosting our vibrant street life and providing a fantastic opportunity for these businesses to thrive. We are able to do this now thanks to a recent state law change made by Senator Senator Scott Wiener , who has been a steadfast champion for nightlife and downtown revitalization.

A one-day Tenderloin operation delivered 54 arrests – with 34 individuals having outstanding warrants. Our residents might not see the behind the scenes work to make these operations happen, but this is how our agencies coordinate to deliver results. San Francisco Police SF Sheriff's Office

I’ve often been asked what I would change about San Francisco if I could wave a magic wand. My answer is always building more housing. Housing is the foundation for so many of our needs like attracting and retaining workers, reducing homelessness, and ensuring that families can stay here. This is why we have to be relentless in changing our housing laws at the local and state levels. We’ve made significant progress removing unnecessary processes, reducing housing fees, and getting rid of barriers to new homes. But we have a lot more work to do. With safe, affordable places to call home, we can create a stronger, more resilient and vibrant San Francisco.
