Housing is a human right. No one in this city should have to worry about losing their home or end up on the streets due to systemic issues. Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. Rae will build social housing on public lands and speed up housing production citywide, cutting red tape while keeping in place tenant and homeowner protections to ensure that people are able to keep their homes. I’ve often been asked what I would change about San Francisco if I could wave a magic wand. My answer is always building more housing. Housing is the foundation for so many of our needs like attracting and retaining workers, reducing homelessness, and ensuring that families can stay here. This is why we have to be relentless in changing our housing laws at the local and state levels. We’ve made significant progress removing unnecessary processes, reducing housing fees, and getting rid of barriers to new homes. But we have a lot more work to do. With safe, affordable places to call home, we can create a stronger, more resilient and vibrant San Francisco.

Spent the day at LeFrak City in Queens talking to residents about affordable housing With a 1% vacancy rate, NYC is in the midst of a housing crisis — how do you solve it? Build, build, build. There are over 1K sites ready to be developed today. Cut the red tape, expedite the permitting process and get shovels in the ground, generating good paying jobs in the process. My plan is to build 500K units of new housing to increase supply and drive costs down for everyone — market rate and rent regulated I did it as Housing Secretary, and with LGA airport, Moynihan Train Hall and the 2nd avenue subway — we can do it again now

The Council's #CityForAll housing plan with $5 billion of investments and modified zoning changes are estimated to create over 80,000 new homes, while helping to strengthen neighborhoods and make housing more affordable. This is the most pro-housing plan in NYC history, including the first citywide zoning text amendment designed to create new homes with our modification to open every part of the city to affordable housing through inclusionary zoning.

You saw my recent video showing low to middle-income homes at Catherine Estates. Today we look at development taking place in other sections of the housing market. While we have made significant strides in providing middle and affordable housing, we recognize the challenges in the low-income and achievable housing markets. That’s why we continue to incentivize development, provide land, and introduce initiatives like the Guaranteed Purchase Programme (GPP) to attract more builders to this sector. We want to see developers build 10,000 homes at a time, bringing houses to market at a much faster rate. With continued investment, capacity-building, and a long-term vision, we will ensure that every Jamaican has access to safe, affordable housing. We are committed to delivering quality housing for Jamaicans under our housing policy and the transformation of Bernard Lodge is just the beginning. As we continue on this journey, we reaffirm our commitment to the people of Jamaica, because under our housing policy, homeownership is a promise we intend to keep.

They claim the concentration of homeless resources and affordable housing — This complaint, it’s 47 pages long and the local neighborhood association says it's the result of years of not being heard by the city — These residents say the high concentration of homeless support, resources and affordable housing are leading to what they call a deliberate hyper-concentration of poverty” “The Soma West Neighborhood Association says after years of no action by the city, they filed a complaint to the state alleging the city is violating state housing law and civil rights mandates — This complaint basically says segregation is illegal, so you should, the state requires you to take affirmative steps to desegregate.”

I’m also a champion of getting shop class back in junior high. I did not vote for the ROAD to Housing Act because we are $39 TRILLION in debt. I’m all for making housing more affordable for American families. But expanding the already bloated Department of Housing and Urban Development is not the answer. Not to mention this bill writes a blank check to blue cities, which we all know will end up going to ILLEGALS, not American citizens.
