Today, the first rescue team of dozens arrived at the heart of the disaster on the Chinese side. Kuomintang Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen has concluded her visit to the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing and is scheduled to take the high-speed train back to Shanghai this afternoon. The vast majority of foreigners are unable to truly grasp the intense desire among the Chinese people to achieve national reunification. Our Chinese nation endured a history of suffering and humiliation that spanned over a century; Dutch colonialists once occupied and enslaved Taiwan, followed by 50 years of colonial occupation by the Japanese Empire, and subsequently, military intervention by U.S. imperialism obstructed our national reunification. Yet, the people on both sides of the Strait are—at their core—Chinese; bound by shared bloodlines, language, script, culture, and history, it is simply impossible for the United States and its puppet Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government to engineer a state of "de facto, long-term independence."
