Guys I have an idea. Red Letter Media needs to make more videos where they remind you how much they hate going out to watch movies in theatres and how everybody around them is annoying. I'm sure this will help.

From my youtube. Godzilla destroying the Nagoya Castle. The unsuccessful first take and how it looks in the film with first and the second takes spliced together. The cut occurs at 0:05 According to Haruo Nakajima the hit DIDN'T dislocate the jaw the suit always looked like that.

Something I only noticed watching these movies just days apart. In King Kong Escapes there's stock footage from The War of the Gargantuas except only the bottom part of the image. For the top Gaira was replaced by King Kong. Here are both scenes synced up.

Cute demon dinosaur Baragon. Who was created when the movie as a replacement for Godzilla who was supposed to fight Frankenstein. The reason for this change is unclear but I think it may be because after the last movie it was too late to depict Godzilla as a villain again.

Showa Godzilla deserves recognition for his redemption story. He didn't just become good. He really had to fight a lot of personal demons.

Mythological then. First time its name is spoken on screen in English? It doesn't meant it will make an appearance but it would be cool. The 50s scenes are just what they should be. These three travelling across the world responding to reports about monsters. Titan X-Files.

T.rex "cameo" in First Man (2018). This movie deserved a lot more awards than it got, especially for the score but at least it got its Oscar for visual effects. Seems like it's one of the last few categories that rarely gives freebies.

Godzilla's msot decisive 1v1 win against Ghidorah. And not because Ghidorah was distracted when he broke out of mind contro. Godzilla uses his spiral ray for the first time. I'm not quite sure how maybe all he has to do is to get angry and focus his energy.

I don't feel bad for the cut scene from Frankenstein vs. Baragon because at least the octopus puppet in this better and more appropriate scene at the beginning of The War of the Gargantuas (Frankenstein Monsters: Sanda vs. Gaira). It even seems to have some kind of ink at 0:31

Godzilla doesn't really do much in this film but travelling under the Earth's mantle is an incredible feat. Also posting this because I really like that dynamic computer animation.

Frankenstein vs. Baragon was released two days after the 20th anniversary off the Hiroshima bombing and knowing Toho's earlier restraint it's a bit shocking to see one of the earliest cultural depictions of the event here. Impossible just ten years before.

I1984 Godzilla is maybe the least intelligent of all. I'm not surprised they never mentioned the bird connection again. But I guess it's a clean way of keeping him around. Shame the tragedy of Godzilla isn't as pronounced until the end but it's a sad scene. Even the PM is crying.

But for sure it also made everyone want to have their own neon-light colored Hong Kong battle.

If King Caesar represents Okinawa then Godzilla represents mainland Japan and their alliance against Mechagodzilla is symbolic though Godzilla is still the star. Politically it's a complex matter but I hope the portrayal of Okinawa in this movie is considered to be positive.

Forgive the incoming info dump but it seems that this 1954 movie has more behind the scenes footage than most movies today. Part 1 of how they made the squid scene. First they filmed it in broad daylight and the squid was a catastrophe.

Dogora attacking the record-breaking Wakato Bridge in Kitakyushu. Built two years before in 1962 the movie is like a travelogue they even travel in the famous blue train. Two best things here are the part-animated destruction of the bridge and Dogora gracefully leaving the area.

Magician Koura (Tom Baker) bringing the statue of Kali to life in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad which should've gotten an Oscar especially because no special effects Oscar was awarded that year. This snub is very strange, the Academy didn't like Harryhausen then.

The final epic battle between Frankenstein vs. Baragon. It's hard to believe the initial story treatment was written by Jerry Sohl, a sci-fi writer who worked on Star Trek, The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. Supposedly, he even visited the set but I have no photos.

Gaira is scariest when we see him during the day and in the open without any buildings to use as reference. He's a ruthless man-eater afraid of the light kind of like a Morlock from The Time Machine.

Godzilla's finest moment? The absolute hell unleashed by Mechagodzilla seemed like an attempt to see much they can get away with. Toru Kawai couldn't see much and at one point he came too close to an explosion (at 1:14 ) igniting the entire back of the suit.

For Godzilla this was the end of the first series. There were interesting ideas for future films but poor box office results, Toho's deal with Disney and I guess the agreement that it was time to take a break put the series on hiatus. It's emotional to see him swim away.

A lot of the horror comes from Gaira looking uncanny when a creature his size runs so fast. In contrast, the good brother, Sanda, is limping for most of his scenes and can't move quickly, so we don't register him as being scary or evil.

Humans bullying Gwangi for existing. I feel like posting this because it's the cleanest stop motion dinosaur ever. So many great shots that are the best of Harryhausen's career. And that's the abridged version. Gwangi is another one of Harryhausen's quasi-Kong characters.
