My return has commenced, and I couldn’t be more motivated. Some important thoughts below: An account I once knew was suspended after Twitter incorrectly penalized it for a common joke in my industry. This exposes a theme underpinning centralization. The minute centralization exists, corruption — in many forms — finds its way in. At mrgn, we build systems that act as a counter-force to this centralization. We’re actually fulfilling the promise “decentralized finance” set out for: Our systems are open to anyone, anywhere. We have people, right now, who are finally able to hold value equivalent to the US Dollar and get ultra-competitive, unsubsidized market interest rates as lenders. There’s no insane transaction fees, there’s no backroom deals, there’s no hidden risk. We’re serving users, right now, in countries with poor banking infrastructure who for the first time: - Have complete control of their funds (we can’t take their wallet away from them) - Can see exactly what their funds are doing (by watching marginfi on-chain) - Know we can never de-platform them (Solana is decentralized & accessible to anyone) Remember, true crypto can't de-platform you. Outside of crypto — real crypto — you are at the mercy of centralization. Practically every system you interact with holds complete control over your life. Your credit card could be blocked, your social media could be taken down, your access to basic services could be revoked. Centralized systems don’t want to give up the autocracy they have over your life. This crypto thing flies in the face of that... it's not going to be easy. Much of the shortcomings of this industry are a direct result of the push back from centralization. Outdated, inefficient, extractive, abusive systems don't want to grant you freedom. However, especially in democratic nations, you have leverage. Make crypto your identity, convert others like it's a religion, be loud about the things you care for. Embrace optimism and don't stop until every service of your life (like Twitter) is no longer a centralized service, but a decentralized one. That's what I'm fighting for. I will defeat my enemies.
