In Nigeria, 1 in 3 girls is married before 18. In the northeast & northwest, it's over 50%. Amina pushed back against family pressure to marry — but millions of girls don't get that choice. This is a policy problem with a proven solution: education. When girls complete secondary school, marriage is delayed by years. That's why we're backing a youth-led coalition pushing governments to implement policies that keep girls learning.

On March 23, schools reopen in Afghanistan. But for the fourth year in a row, girls older than 11 are banned from attending. Since 2021, the Taliban has stripped girls of opportunities and denied them their future. This is not just injustice — it’s gender apartheid. Malala Fund is calling on individuals and institutions to stand in solidarity. Help raise awareness, support Afghan girls learning in secret, and demand international accountability. What is happening in Afghanistan is a warning to the world. Afghan women hold the line for all of us. At the People’s Tribunal in Madrid, their testimonies became legal evidence as proof of Taliban’s state-led campaign of gender persecution. The final verdict is expected in two months. #EndGenderApartheid

This International Day of Education, UNESCO 🏛️ #Education #Sciences #Culture 🇺🇳 is highlighting the power of youth to co-create the future of education. We’re proud to trust and invest in young women who are turning girls’ rights into real-world change: policy that’s enforceable, financing that’s predictable, and accountability that lasts. Turning promises into reality takes all of us: partner with youth, back proven solutions, and ensure commitments are delivered.

Keeping girls in school is one of the strongest ways to end child marriage. In Nigeria, Education as a Vaccine Nigeria is leading youth activists and civil society partners — One Life Initiative, youthhubafrica, and CSACEFA Nigeria — to push state governments to adopt and implement the National Strategy to End Child Marriage. Education isn't just access. It's prevention. 🔗

A few months ago, Afghan women came forward to share testimony for the People’s Tribunal for Women of Afghanistan. Their courage helped produce today’s judgment, which finds the Taliban responsible for gender persecution and operating an apartheid-like system of control over girls and women. The judgment also highlights a major gap. International law does not yet recognise gender apartheid as a crime. Afghan women made this moment possible and they want real action. Sahar Halaimzai, Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy at Malala Fund, reflects on what this means for the upcoming Crimes Against Humanity treaty negotiations and for efforts to protect the rights of girls and women everywhere. In Nigeria, more than one third of all girls are married before age 18. Malala Fund’s new strategy positions education as a key solution to ending child marriage — and ensures girls who are already married have the chance to return to school. Hear from our Nigeria Chief Executive, Nabila Aguele, on why this matters. Watch the full conversation between Nabila and girls’ education advocate Funom Yakubu: ⬅️▶️
