PAPERWORK BEFORE PAWPRINTS: What SA Law Says About Hunting With Dogs Hunting with dogs in South Africa needs more than a good pack and strong boots. The law applies to every hunter, handler and landowner. If you plan to hunt with dogs, you need a valid hunting license or permit from your provincial conservation authority for that specific season and species. You also need written permission from the landowner stating exactly where, when and what you may hunt. These rules protect wildlife, prevent animal cruelty and respect property rights. Each province sets its own season dates, species lists and limits on how many dogs you can use. Hunting at night, out of season, or in parks and reserves without special permits is not allowed. Getting it wrong is costly. You could face fines up to R100,000, jail time, and SAPS can confiscate dogs, vehicles and equipment. The Animals Protection Act also makes it an offence to allow dogs to cause unnecessary suffering to any animal. Simple rule: no license and no written landowner permission means no legal hunt. Get your documents in order before the dogs run.

The manager and employer of Rongshou Clothing in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal, was arrested for hiring illegal workers and violating South Africa's immigration laws. The employer will face additional charges for paying workers R5 per hour, significantly below the statutory National Minimum Wage. A prohibition notice was served to the factory, and the employer will receive a bill for outstanding payments. The arrest resulted from a joint operation between the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Employment and Labour, and Mandeni Municipal inspectors, who conducted a three-day inspection blitz in the textile and clothing sector following numerous complaints. Provincial Chief Inspector Mlungisi Zondi warned that more inspections are planned to enforce compliance with labour laws and protect workers' rights. MEB40122141 SA1st -MEB
