This legendary battle would go down in history as one of the greatest days of competitive TEKKEN. Watch the build up through earlier battles between S. Korea and Japan in TEKKEN 5's earlier revisions. The history, legacy and story from various players come full circle in an epic showdown between the strongest fighters at Gunsou Cup. The Gunsou Cup featured a 5 VS 5 team tournament format in a new era of TEKKEN. At the time this coincided with the arcade version of Namco's TEKKEN 5: Dark Resurrection. This story surrounds the best players from Japan's Kansai region, led by the fabled Mainstreet Ryu and his team, JAPANESE FINAL WEAPON. Mainstreet Ryu's sights were set on South Korea's strongest player at the time, Qudans. Qudans and 4 other S. Korean TEKKEN all-stars rounded out TEAM KOREA as the BATTLE FOR PRIDE was set. In 2019, the latest entry in the series (at the time), TEKKEN 7 -- is beloved by many around the world. It is undoubtedly the most popular TEKKEN title in terms of viewership and competition. In 2017, ten years after the Gunsou Cup, Qudans, now a living legend is crowned TEKKEN World Tour Champion. This is a rare look into the legacy and legend of yesteryear that helped develop what global TEKKEN competition is today. Please enjoy it. Dear TTT, Hey old friend! How have you been? This is MarkMan from tekkennet or Tekken Zaibatsu! Remember Castel’s crazy combo videos with the sick music!? I met you when I was in the Summer of my junior year of high school, right before I became a senior. Crazy right? You’ll never believe it. I FINALLY went to Japan! Actually, I spend way too much time there now haha. I really have to thank you. If it wasn’t for you… I wouldn’t have traveled the world. I wouldn’t have met so many amazing friends. I wouldn’t have pursued a career in video games. It’s wild to think that we’ve known each other since 1999… you’ve been with me since I was 17. I’m 44 now and really happy we still get to see each other. Some of our friend group are no longer with us. Some passed away and some just moved on with life. It’s sad but I’ll never forget the memories we all shared. You’d be proud. The community has grown so much. I’m not as alone anymore and can talk about fighting games with more people than ever.
