Why many opening a junior ISA should consider investing not saving. On a This Morning phone in where a grandma asked Martin 'wheres the best place to save for my new grandchild for when they're all older'. After explaining the savings options Martin suggests perhaps investing is the better option. A junior ISA is a tax-free savings or investment account that can be open for under 18s which you can put up to £9,000 pounds per tax year in.

As Andy Burnham makes his 1st Commons speech as PM today, I thought this worth a repost. Eleven months ago, I was invited to speak at the POLITICOEurope Labour Party conference fringe event and asked why the govt was so unpopular, & what I’d have advised them to do. Perhaps they were listening?

Age 18 to 39? This is an important warning. Lifetime ISAs can give you £1,000/yr, but they’re to be replaced. Open one with £1 before that and you can keep the facility. FULL info in the new ‘Huge ISA & Lifetime ISA changes’ Martin Lewis podcast via BBC Sounds, Apple, Spotify & all usual pod players.

Martin asks MPs: “Do you know what your equivalised income is?” as that’s what some water firms ask vulnerable people to see if they’re eligible for a social (ie capped costs) tariff. A clip of the utility regulation evidence at Commons Public Accounts committee. Watch the full session at PS MPs later asked Ofwat to explain. It said it is household income adjusted for size and composition, allowing for a fair comparison of living standards across different households, but accepted it “could be explained more clearly”.

“Martin, I have £13,000 of Credit Card debt, and £37,000 in loans from my wedding this year. I’m struggling to get a 0% balance transfer. Is this due to my loan which I took out six months ago?” Courtesy of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live ‘reboot your finances'. Watch the full show on:

News! From 2027, the full new state pension will be higher than the tax-free allowance, so tax is due. The Chancellor had said people wouldn’t need to do assessments, but on my show tonight, Rachel Reeves said, they won’t pay tax at all this parliament. Watch the full show & budget interview on PS I asked the Chancellor after that… ‘what about those edge-cases who earn just a tiny bit elsewhere like small private pensions?’ she said they won’t be included in this and thus will pay tax.
