I am pleased to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. We emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Region. We also discussed efforts to form a new federal cabinet. We both hoped that the new federal cabinet will promote peace and stability in Iraq, serve all communities without discrimination, and resolve issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government on the basis of the Constitution. On the peace process and the disarmament of the PKK, I reiterated my support for the process, and we stressed the importance of continuing the efforts to ensure its success and completion.

The project will log our wildlife and plant species, support scientific research, and strengthen conservation policies by building a database of Kurdistan’s flora and fauna. Protecting our biodiversity is a responsibility we all share.

The Peshmerga is more than a military force. It is a symbol of the struggle, sacrifice and identity of the people of Kurdistan. Today is a historic day for Kurdistan and the Peshmerga; the process of unifying and reorganizing the Peshmerga forces has been successfully completed. This unification is the first step of a long process, and the next phase is even more important. It must focus on strengthening military capabilities, providing advanced weapons and air defense systems, developing competencies, and comprehensively advancing the Peshmerga forces.

On the 65th anniversary of the commencement of the Great September Revolution, led by our national leader Mustafa Barzani, we honor and remember all Peshmerga, patriots, and participants. This widespread revolution saw members of all ethnic and religious communities unite to secure the fundamental rights of the people of Kurdistan, culminating in the historic March 11, 1970 agreement. On this historic occasion, we reaffirm the need for unity and solidarity among all Kurdish political forces and parties. Together, we remain committed to defending, upholding, and advancing the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region and our collective national achievements. We salute the enduring memory of the martyrs of this revolution and all martyrs of Kurdistan.

I am proud to lay the foundation stone for the Barzani Grand Mosque in Erbil. The mosque will be built entirely by local expertise and workforce, and it will become the largest landmark of its kind at two million square meters. Throughout Kurdistan’s history, mosques have served as centers of learning and leadership. We hope this mosque will also become a major center for faith, spiritual enlightenment, knowledge, and service to the homeland.

Today, we honored the memory of the victims of the Ezidi Genocide and reaffirmed that their suffering will never be forgotten. Twelve years after the Genocide, the resilience of our Ezidi sisters and brothers remains a source of strength and pride for all of Kurdistan. We remember the hundreds of Peshmerga who lost their lives to liberate and protect Sinjar. We will also continue doing everything we can to support survivors, find and rescue those who are still missing, and help displaced Ezidis return safely and with dignity to their homes.

During the final stage of this campaign of genocide, the former Iraqi regime killed and abducted thousands of innocent people from the different communities of the Badinan region and destroyed hundreds of villages, resulting in the displacement of tens of thousands of people. We once again call on the federal government of Iraq to compensate the families of all victims of the Anfal genocide, the chemical attacks, and all those who fell victim to the former regime. The KRG reaffirms its commitment to continue to support the families of the martyrs and Anfal victims. May the souls of the victims of the Anfal genocide and all the martyrs of Kurdistan rest in eternal peace.
