![[WATCH] IMPEACHMENT COMMITTEE CHAIR. If Mmusi wants to chair the committee he must put his ambitions forward and not create his own rules. There is no rule that says the ANC is excluded from putting forth a candidate to chair the committee. We are not going into the impeachment process to defend, we are going into it guided by the ruling of the constitutional court and follow all matters step by step as expected of us. Even in the Ad Hoc Committee we have acted without fear or favour, even against our own. Maimane must not create rules that are non existent and he has ambitions to chair the committee and we will not support it. We have had an Ad Hoc Committee chair by Cde Soviet who is an ANC member, it was fair and he was unbiased even against his fellow members who appeared. We are not condemning them. But we will not sit back and allow wrong doing. We won’t allow dangerous populism to erode the good standing of our country. The government convened a meeting with NGOs to understand what are the issues and there was a good conversation. Government conveyed the message that it will not allow a state of lawlessness. You cannot go on national TV and threaten violence. In a democratic state a person can criticise the government but no one can call for violence. Two freedom fighters meet in Tehran. Lest we forget, prior to Iranian revolution, the Shah regime was a close ally of apartheid regime. The latter was getting oil for a song from the Shah’s despotic regime. In 1979, things changed through the leadership of Imam Khomeini supported by Shaheed Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khameine to cut ties with racist South Africa. Their stance was clear: Iran cannot have relations with a racist oppressive regime. Shah’s family was exiled and they were welcomed by apartheid regime and to this day they still own a house in Joburg. We must not forget our friends✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

Judge Dennis Davis is correct in his analysis as I also emphasised that the judgement of the constitutional court does not impugn the President in any wrongdoing but that the process that Parliament followed must be redone. And that if the report by Justice Ngcobo is set aside that is the end of the matter.

People can’t take the law onto their hands because we have laws and we not a banana republic. The state must intervene and we will reflect as the NEC on the way forward and will come out with a comprehensive response. We are a constitutional democracy and everyone has a right to protest within the perimeters of the law. We are not preoccupied with that, we have managed to marshal our structures in a particular direction. When they were leading the ANC they were given space. Nelson Mandela had a view on HIV/AIDs but he chose to keep quiet. Mandela called me and Malusi, and asked why are we quiet about this AIDs issue and shared his position. He never addressed the media. When he ventilated his position he was told that he must give President Thabo Mbeki the space to lead. He left bitter but he never went to the press. If President Cyril is failing, call him and ventilate your frustrations don’t denigrate him in the media and society. This is Ramaphosas time and he has led under difficult circumstances. They never led under Covid and economy that is struggling.
