This week I spoke at a conference on anti-Zionism at the European Parliament—an old hatred in fashionable new garb. Here's my speech, titled “A Spiral of Silence: How Academia Enforces Anti-Zionist Orthodoxy”. It examines the increasingly hostile and suffocating environment in Western academia for those who hold dissenting views on Israel and the Gaza war, as well as the manufactured consensus around the obscene accusation of “genocide”—a narrative that is unraveling more with each passing day. No other form of fake news has garnered such widespread assent in academia and among cultural elites despite a total lack of evidence and overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And almost none of the usual "misinformation" experts has expressed the slightest interest. It really is the blood libel of our age. My thanks again to European Jewish Congress, B’nai B’rith International, and Alice Teodorescu Måwe for hosting this important conference.

I saw RAYE at the Montreux Jazz Festival last night, and it was probably one of the best pop/jazz concerts I've ever seen—up there with David Bowie and Radiohead. I only discovered her a month or two ago, having largely stopped following pop music over the past decade. I find most of it boring and derivative. But I became obsessed with Raye almost immediately, because she's simply phe-no-me-nal. The ambition of her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, is staggering—it's like going straight to your Sgt. Pepper's. There isn't a style she doesn't seem to master effortlessly. As a vocalist, songwriter, composer, and arranger, she's in a league of her own. And my God, those live arrangements. Check her out with full symphonic orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall (and she's arranging this herself??). 😱 She brought a full string and brass section, backing vocalists, special guests including Alicia Keys, Mark Ronson, and her two sisters—all superb musicians. She moved seamlessly from jazz standards to tributes to Nina Simone and Ray Charles, casually crushed Prince's Purple Rain, and delivered her own songs with astonishing versatility. Here's the almost operatic coda to Nightingale Lane, the song that first hooked me. I ended up buying a second-hand ticket from a scalper because I was determined to see her, and I don't regret it. I know I sound like a total groupie, but this really is a generational talent. If you don't know RAYE yet, do yourself a favor and check her out.

On his 90th birthday, political scientist & war scholar Michael Walzer offers more moral clarity on the Gaza war than the entire Intl Association of Genocide Scholars and dozens of NGOs combined. (He proceeded to rebuke certain of Israel's war policies, as is totally legitimate.)
