Pakistan’s government is defying its own Supreme Court and keeping Imran Khan behind bars on politically motivated charges. After years of imprisonment, prolonged isolation, and growing concerns about his health, Khan was ordered by Pakistan’s Supreme Court to receive independent medical treatment with access to his personal physician. Instead, authorities returned him to prison without carrying out the ordered care. But this goes beyond medical treatment. Imran Khan should not be imprisoned in the first place. Amnesty International has called his imprisonment “unlawful and politically motivated,” and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called for his immediate release. Pakistan must respect the rule of law, end his isolation, allow independent medical care, and FREE IMRAN KHAN.
