Today, a congresswoman lied to have me detained by Capitol Police. Why? To try to silence our work against U.S. wars in the Middle East and sanctions on Cuba. Instead of defending these wildly unpopular policies, members of Congress target the activists working to stop them. Thankfully, I was released without charges. No amount of intimidation will change that the majority of people in the U.S. want to stop U.S. wars and aggression. We won't be silenced.

“The sanctions are murdering people in Cuba.” That was the message CODEPINK activist Tighe Barry brought directly to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. While millions of Cubans endure blackouts, shortages of fuel and medicine, and the daily consequences of a decades-long economic siege, U.S. officials continue defending policies that make life harder for ordinary people. Marco Rubio has never had to live through a blackout that lasts days. He has never had to wonder whether a hospital will have the supplies it needs. Cubans do. Let Cuba live.

Remember María Corina Machado? the Venezuelan politician who dedicated her so-called “Nobel Peace Prize” to Donald Trump? Today, CODEPINK activists interrupted her speech and gave her a more fitting award instead: the Monroe Doctrine Award. For outstanding dedication to U.S. intervention, sanctions, regime change, and empire in Latin America. A politician who supported sanctions that devastated Venezuelan families, backed invasion threats, and supports Israel’s genocide in Gaza does not represent peace. She represents war, colonization, and U.S. hegemony. Congratulations, Maria.

Rick Scott says our trip to bring humanitarian aid to Cuba was “disgusting.” The policies he supports starve the people, block all fuel imports, and cause severe shortages in the healthcare system. We did our best to take all his questions, but it doesn't seem like he liked the answers.

Today in the House, members voted down a measure to restrict Trump's authority to continue attacking Iran by a vote of 214-213. We paid a visit to the office of the only Democrat who voted with Republicans, Rep. Jared Golden from Maine. Had he voted with his party, the bill would have passed. There is no good reason to have voted against this bill. This is an unjustified, unprovoked war is destabilizing the region and the global economy. It should be ended immediately.

Last night outside the Cuban Embassy in Washington, DC, dozens gathered to dance salsa in solidarity with the Cuban people. People who recently returned from Cuba shared firsthand testimonies about the impact of U.S. sanctions and about the resilience, dignity, and resistance of the Cuban people in the face of escalating pressure. As threats against Cuba intensify, more people around the world are standing up, speaking out, and refusing to stay silent. We will continue raising our voices against these cruel policies and in defense of Cuba’s sovereignty and humanity.

After days on top of that bridge, Guido Reichstadter is finally down and free after being jailed for his act of protest. No food. No water. Wind. Rain. Arrest. And still, his message was simple: “We have the power. We just have to have the courage to use it.” Guido climbed that bridge to demand an end to war and to remind all of us that ordinary people still have the power to resist violence and empire through courage and nonviolent action.

WATCH: Along with another protesters, I confronted Israeli war criminal Itamar Ben-Gvir today at the U.S. Capitol and he completely lost it. Ben-Gvir, Israel’s so-called “Minister of National Security,” has openly called for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and directs the bombing of civilians, aid workers, and critical infrastructure. His violent, irritable reaction to peaceful protest shows exactly the kind of brutality he unleashes on Palestinians every day.
