Footage of a Muslim officer being abused at a protest was widely shared this weekend. It happened a few weeks ago and we won’t be resharing the video, but yesterday we saw more of the same. Nobody should have to put up with abuse at work and that includes police officers. Arrests were made in all these incidents and we'll be pushing for charges in every case.

Officers have been deployed across London, identifying and disrupting those most likely to be involved in violence and criminality at the event. We’ve done this by arresting and charging offenders where we have been able to. Where charges weren’t possible, we’ve imposed bail conditions banning those who pose the biggest risk from attending. We’re keeping the majority safe, by targeting the minority who come to do harm.

The event is not due to start for an hour and regrettably officers are already dealing with disorder. There is an area allocated for this event in Richmond Terrace. This group went past it and continued up Whitehall. When officers formed a cordon and asked the group to turn round, they reacted by violently forcing their way through. Mounted officers intervened with horses to restore the cordon.

Using a rolling road system, specialist officers can safely test an e-bike's speed and power output to determine whether it complies with the law. We're not looking to catch out law-abiding riders. Our focus is on taking dangerous, illegally-modified e-bikes off London's streets and helping keep everyone safe. This year alone, officers have seized more than 2,500 illegal e-bikes, with 4,500 seized since January 2025.
