I mean he really is naive, but that’s part of what makes Kingston special. He has no ego, Chris has no ego, none of our kids have egos. I knocked the ego out of them early, not literally (laughter), but the strength of our program is we play for each other & our program is more important than any individual & that includes me”

Kelvin Sampson: “Losing has never bothered me that much because losing is part of the journey. Now we win around here so much that sometimes you forget that we can lose too. When you win 30 games 4-5 yrs in a row, flip conferences & you’re still winning, you assume it’s easy. It’s not.”

Kelvin Sampson: “I brought these 2 freshman in here because I wanted to tell them how proud I am of them. They got tough jobs. They’re playing for a program that has won more games than anyone in America the last 8 yrs, & all of a sudden they’ve been put to start…high character kids handle adversity well cause they’ve been brought up the right way & I give credit to their parents.”

Kelvin Sampson: “Kids don’t choose schools anymore, they choose a coaching staff. You gotta choose the right coaching staff for you. Jarace Walker’s father is the one who started that. Give both of these kids credit, they choose to come to Houston. They both made great choices.”

He talked to me about how much he loves watching us play & following us. Kelvin Sampson: “All yr we haven’t thrown the ball inside. We haven’t had someone we can throw the ball inside & attract double teams & be consistent w/scoring so what we’ve been all year is a jump shot shooting team & that’s ok, you can win a lot of games doing that but at some point you gotta get transition pts & the last two games that has been the biggest bugaboo. We’re having to play way too much in the half court. We’re not scoring off our defense as much.”

KD: “I love it here, I’m loving being apart of the Rockets. Every time I go to the arena, I look up & see the retired jerseys. It makes me go harder. I’m old, but I still feel like if I put in enough work, I can hopefully be up there with y’all one day. I’m always inspired by just seeing your (Hakeem) name. I’m inspired every day.”

Kelvin Sampson on NCAA tournament seeds: “One thing I’ve learned about seeding over the years is I’d rather have health than seed. When I pray, I don’t pray to be a 2, 3 or 1, I just pray that we can stay healthy…for us it just comes down to if this team stays healthy”

I was at the Peach Bowl last yr & everybody I talked to associated w/the Peach Bowl (20-30 ppl) talked about 2015 & how UH came in & getting after FSU. UH football will be honoring Coach Hester in many ways on Saturday #Unbreakable & his initials on their helmets #Unbreakable will be written on the field -Spirit of Houston will have a halftime tribute & spell out Unbreakable -Black unis as it was his fav color & it was the color of his Unbreakable merchandise -More plans are being developed Fritz wishes him a happy heavenly birthday (it was this Tuesday)
