Oklahoma passed a $250M private school tax credit (voucher) in 2023. We now know more than 90% of recipients were already in private school & just 361 of nearly 40,000 students came from low-income households. HB3705 would expand it to $275M/year. (Vote count at the end.)

🆘 I hope that by posting this debate and information, more people across the U.S. will start paying attention to what’s happening in the Oklahoma State Legislature. Today, Oklahoma passed a School Chaplain bill, allowing public schools to hire chaplains, further eroding the barrier between church and state. GOP lawmakers continue pushing legislation to increase religious influence in government. Here are some proposals introduced in Oklahoma rooted in Christian Nationalism: - Designating the Bible as the Official State Book. - Establishing the nation's first taxpayer-funded religious charter school. - Displaying the Ten Commandments at the state capitol. - Mandating the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom. - Using Bible verses to justify spanking children with disabilities in school. - Religious school tax credits. - Banning the teaching of evolution in public schools. - The governor claiming the state of Oklahoma for Christ in his inaugural speech. While I support and defend religious freedom, I oppose those in positions of power who use their authority to legislate their religion onto society as a whole. We are a constitutional republic which is a form of democracy, NOT a theocracy. SB 36 passed the #okleg House 54-37 Vote record:

When religion directs the government, it is not democracy; it is theocracy. We have recently witnessed in Oklahoma how religious fundamentalism can lead to a narrow-minded interpretation of scripture, which can be used to justify oppressive and exclusionary laws. During my time in the Oklahoma Legislature, I have heard Republicans say that rape is "God's will" and that it should not warrant an abortion, because while rape "may not be the best thing that ever happened, it is all part of God's plan." Last week, a Republican lawmaker cited Proverbs to reject a ban on corporal punishment for children with disabilities in schools. During a re-election speech, our Republican governor dedicated the state of Oklahoma to Jesus: "With the authority that I have as governor, and the spiritual authority and the physical authority that you give me, I claim Oklahoma for you." The previous Attorney General believed that tax dollars should fund religious charter schools. We must not allow theocrats to weaponize their religious biases to enforce bigoted laws, marginalize minority groups, harm public health, damage our public schools, and reject scientific advances - all at taxpayers' expense. This is not the American way. We must stand up for equal treatment under the law and the separation of church and state under the Constitution.

What to do when apartment A/C unit goes out: “If the landlord fails to comply within said fourteen (14) days, or as promptly as conditions require in the case of an emergency, the tenant may thereafter cause the work to be done in a workmanlike manner and, after submitting to the landlord an itemized statement, deduct from his or her rent the actual and reasonable cost or the fair and reasonable value of the work, not exceeding the amount specified in this subsection, in which event the rental agreement shall not terminate by reason of that breach.” 2022 Oklahoma Statutes Title 41. Landlord and Tenant §41-121. Landlord’s breach of rental agreement - Deductions from rent for repairs - Failure to supply heat, water or other essential services - Habitability of dwelling unit.
