The novelist Kurt Vonnegut wrote in 2005 that Susan Sontag said this when asked about the Holocaust: “10 per cent of any population is cruel, no matter what, and 10 per cent is merciful, no matter what, and the remaining 80 per cent can be moved in either direction.”

I just went to Cobham to get my kids some toys and went into a shop called FARRANTS There is a MASSIVE picture that is pride of place at the point of payment. It is an image of black men, broken black men at a tobacco plantation with their overseers next to them?!?! I kid you not! This is in a family store, this imagery is massive triggering and racist. And there is no conceivable reason it should be there! I’m so thankful I wasn’t with my girls. How on earth could anyone have shopped there and found that image acceptable. This is exhausting and damaging to many people.

An urgent update on Sudan. I beg you all to share this far and wide. Across Sudan, acute malnutrition is expected to worsen in 2026 according to the alert, with a 13.5% increase in cases of acute malnutrition in children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women – from 3.7 million children and women in 2025, to nearly 4.2 million in 2026. Violent conflict ensues, undermining humanitarian service delivery and disrupting people’s access to agriculture production and livelihoods, exacerbating vulnerability and suffering. Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) – the most dangerous and deadly form of extreme hunger – is expected to increase to 800,000 cases, up 4% since 2025. Save the Children UK

The Israeli occupation army tortured the child Jawad Abu Nassar (one year and nine months old) east of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza after arresting him. According to the medical report, he was harmed by having cigarettes extinguished on his leg, being stabbed, and having an iron nail inserted into it, in order to pressure his father into making confessions. This occurred at a time when his father, Osama Abu Nassar, was suffering from psychological trauma after losing his source of livelihood when the horse he worked with died. He had been receiving therapy sessions in recent days. Two days earlier, he went out with his child to buy necessities, but found himself trapped under gunfire due to his home being close to the border east of Maghazi. A quadcopter drone forced him to leave his child on the ground and head toward a checkpoint, where he was stripped of his clothes. After that, soldiers took the child and began torturing him in front of his father, before releasing the child after about 10 hours of detention and torture, handing him over to his family through the Red Cross in the Maghazi market. The father remains detained, and the family is appealing to international organizations to intervene for his release and to continue the child’s treatment. Via Salma Kaddoumi

This video from Ireland is incredibly painful to watch, the way this little black girl keeps looking, hoping to be seen and treated like everyone else…. This kind of experience can do serious damage to a young person, where is the duty of care?! I am so glad Simone Biles reached out to her.

The amount of vitriol that has been afforded towards her is industrial in scale, insidious in nature and illegal by all counts. I'm very protective of her and her husband and those beautiful babies. From The Trawl: The Trawl Meets Misan Harriman, 20 Feb 2026 Marina Purkiss

For personal reasons I really, REALLY struggle to speak about premature babies, but it is important for us to know the stories of the smallest and most fragile souls in Gaza. This is the story of Sabreen Al-Sakani. Never forget their names and stories. #prematurebaby

Via Dr Tessa Dunlop Really? Not more aimless swiping at the Sussexes. Surely as a nation we are worth more than this. Thank you Tom Bower for dragging the disappointing British right wing press into the gutter. And pray where were you when all the Andrew revelations came out? #harryandmeghan #camilla #princewillam #tombower
