Today I visited the former US detention and torture facility in #Bagram #Afghanistan where I was held captive in 2002 for one year. I found the cells I was held in, the rooms I was processed like an animal in, the chambers I was interrogated in and the places where I witnessed murder. It was like a dream and nightmare come true at the same time. I thank Allah and all those who helped make this mission possible. In sha Allah the #AlJazeera documentary about this journey should air in a few months. The #Bagram circle is almost complete. I pray #Guantanamo closes next and we can go back there too one day.

About to leave #Syria 13 years after my last visit. I’ve seen #Sednaya and #PalestineBranch prison and torture sites, Palestinian refugees in #Yarmouk camps, Khalid Ibn Waleed’s grave, the intense destruction in #Homs, #Aleppo and #Ghouta; I’ve met former prisoners - including US rendition survivors sent by #CIA to #Assad; I’ve participated in the mind-blowing rebuilding, rehousing and educational projects of Tauqir Sharif from London designed for orphans and the destitute; I’ve dined in tents in freezing temperatures with Syrians who’ve been repeatedly displaced by war, bombing and earthquakes; I’ve met people I knew from before and youngsters who cautiously hope for a brighter future. I’ve seen so much - yet I’ve seen nothing at all for only those who’ve lived through the years of destruction, brutality and uncertainty can truly understand what has happened. In sha Allah over the coming days I’ll post videos and views of what for me was one of the most momentous trips of my life. May Allah grant #Syria and its people hope, strength and success.

I’m sure I’ve seen Hollywood movies that end like this. But this was no movie. Prior to the footage, #Yahya_Sinwar is wounded by a tank shell and loses his hand. He throws grenades at advancing Israeli soldiers. They run away. They’re so frightened they send a drone to scan the building. It finds Sinwar seated and weak but able to hurl a stick - even the drone cowers. The tank fires now he’s located. Sinwar’s death is immortalised by his enemies, as is their cowardice. Mission complete.
