These are the empty seats 22 minutes before the biggest Papal Mass of the year begins in Saint Peter's Basilica. It's not about people not wanting to come but rather not able to pick up tickets or get in because the lines are so unorganized.

Rome is full. Stay home. This is the line for Saint Peter’s Basilica at 7 AM today. The last few months have been getting more and more crowded. Each day busier than I’ve experienced in twenty years. I imagine it will somehow continue to get worse until the end of 2025.

More in my series on the Israeli military not allowing Christians to celebrate on Easter… This scene from inside the Holy Sepulcher looks bad. Are the police kicking out these people? No. I was here. This area was inside the church, behind a barricade where first aide and additional security was set up. The whole morning people would push to get behind the barricades and had to be asked/told to move back. Usually they did so without incident. Sometimes people would argue or refuse. To be fair, this part of the church is usually open to the public, but it was clear that it was blocked off for Saturday. I did not witness this exact scuffle, but I saw similar events throughout the morning. It should also be noted that these people are being pushed *closer* to the empty tomb, and not being kicked out.

There is a viral video going around with this guy. He’s pretty well known and loved here. Sings in the piazza everyday and has for years. I’m not sure what happened, but there was a bit of a scuffle in the basilica yesterday. Well he’s back to his usual routine. He shouts / sings the names of the saints for hours.

Maybe this has happened before, but I can’t recall any of the previous popes *walking* the Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession from Saint John Lateran to Santa Maria Maggiore. It’s really beautiful to see. It’s only about a mile, but it’s currently around 90° F / 31° C, and Pope Leo is carrying the monstrance. It would be perfectly acceptable to use one of the modified vehicles popes previously used in the past. This really made it hit me that the last time we had a pope in his 60s was in 1989 🩵 Video Vatican Media

Maybe some of you knew this, I did not. Gammarelli is out and Mancinelli on Borgo Pio is in! They will be making the white cassocks for the Conclave. Mancinelli made cassocks for the last three popes and was then asked to make the small, medium, and large white cassocks that will be in the Room of Tears when the new pope is elected. What an honor this must be! Apparently he’s already done some interviews, so this isn’t a scoop, but it’s news to me and probably most of you too. 😂
