Hov brought the city out. The ride home broke a record. Between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., more than 8,000 riders entered the subway at 161 St–Yankee Stadium after Jay-Z’s concert—the highest 3 a.m. station entry total on record. The previous high was just over 5,000 at Times Sq after New Year’s Eve 2013.

Five years ahead of schedule. $195 million under budget. Since October 2023, crews replaced 196 bridge structures and more than 12,600 feet of railroad along the 133-year-old Park Avenue Viaduct—all over 28 tightly coordinated weekends while maintaining full Metro-North service. The work took place along a critical corridor carrying 98% of Metro-North trains—approximately 750 trains and 260,000 passengers every day. With the major structural replacement now complete, we asked the project lead how the MTA delivered the work faster and for less without disrupting service.

Carving out the future tunnels that will bring the Q to East Harlem takes some very big machines — and they’re already taking shape. Crews are assembling the first 1.5-million-pound tunnel-boring machine that will dig through Manhattan bedrock and build the future path of the Q up to 125 St and west at least to Park Ave. See how the massive machine is taking shape ahead of its trip underground next year. Before a 190,000-pound bridge can be lifted into place on active Metro-North tracks over the course of 48 hours, it has to get to Harlem first. Weeks before each weekend replacement, crews transport, outfit, and position each piece of the bridge so everything is perfect when the installation window arrives. This is the work behind the work. That planning has helped keep the Park Avenue Viaduct project 51 months ahead of schedule and $93 million under budget. Read more about it in This Week in Construction at

The last time the Knicks won it all, New Yorkers rode home on R32 subway cars. Those same cars carried fans through the city's celebration in 1973. More than 50 years later, New York is dreaming again. Ahead of Game 3, we're bringing back a piece of that spring for one special ride. The K train.

With a new pedestrian bridge to Livonia Av (L), new elevators and extended platforms, and a brand-new mezzanine, Junius St is getting a full transformation. They ran millions of miles under New York. Now they’re part of something new. In 2002, hundreds of retired subway cars were placed off the coast of South Carolina across five reef sites—intentionally creating artificial reefs. Today, they’re home to fish, coral, and marine life. The program ended in 2010. The impact didn’t. Still delivering—just in a different way. 🎥: South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
