Mumbai’s skyline has lost one of its most iconic sights. The famous Air India logo that stood atop the 23-storey Air India Building at Nariman Point has finally been taken down. The 38 × 24 ft aluminium logo, a familiar part of Mumbai’s skyline for decades, was dismantled into 40 pieces by PWD workers after a week-long operation, braving strong winds and rain. An iconic piece of Mumbai’s visual identity is gone.

That 9 AM siren you just heard in South Mumbai… It’s a sound Mumbai once heard every single morning. The 9 AM siren was part of Mumbai’s old civil-defence system, originally meant to warn the city during emergencies and air raids. For decades, its daily test became so familiar that Mumbaikars would set their watches by it. Today, hearing it again from Regal Junction feels like a little piece of old Mumbai coming back.

Mumbai’s 900-year-old Banganga Tank is facing the same tragedy again. Hundreds of fish have died in the historic tank at Walkeshwar following Pitru Paksha. And sadly, this isn’t new. In 2025, BMC removed 10,000 kg of dead fish and organic waste from Banganga. Similar mass fish deaths were reported in 2023 and even in 2022. The tank dates back to 1127 AD and is one of Mumbai’s oldest surviving water bodies, fed by an underground freshwater spring. Ritual offerings are suspected to be contributing to the deterioration of water quality and oxygen levels, but the exact cause of this year’s deaths is still being investigated. BMC has now called priests and residents for a meeting.

Among the findings: samosas stored near a dirty drain and stagnant water, unfiltered water being used for cooking and drinking, and food items without proper labels or expiry dates. The FDA also found that 26 of 36 food handlers did not have mandatory medical certificates. The outlet has been ordered to stop all food production, storage, sale and distribution until further orders.
