So proud of Folarin Balogun … two goals in the opening game of the World Cup. I’ve been working with Flo for several years now. I know how much this means to him. If this guy has been putting everything into this moment… This is what Elite level Striker play looks like!

IDPs are now a buzzword in football. Everyone's talking about them. Very few people can tell you what one actually looks like, or how it changes what happens on the grass. For over 20 years I've been an individual development specialist. I've worked with players at every stage, from grassroots to the Premier League, and delivered at some of the best academies and federations in world football. The IDP was never a trend for me. It's the document that drives every single session. Here's the reality. Most coaching programmes are built around the group: group tactics, group possession, group sessions. The individual gets left behind. A player can train four nights a week and still never work on the one thing holding them back. A real IDP changes that. It identifies the player's position-specific needs, the game-changing moments they have to own, and the actions that will transfer into matches. Then every session is built around it. It's a living document, not a form you fill in once and forget. I've delivered my Developing The Game Changer masterclass to Aston Villa, Brighton, Chicago Fire, the HKFA and the Premier League Academy Coaches Conference at Old Trafford. Now you can get the full recording, the complete presentation deck, and my actual IDP document, the one I use with professional players. Want to take your IDP game to the next level? Comment GAMECHANGER and I'll send it straight to you. Develop The Individual. Not The System.

You’ve got your badges. Not one of them taught you how to coach 1-2-1. Level 1, Level 2, UEFA B — all built around teams. Formations, phases, shape. Then you’re on a pitch with one player for an hour and none of it applies. That’s not a failure on your part. The qualification doesn’t exist. So coaches end up pulling drills off YouTube and hoping they add up to a development plan. They don’t. Drills aren’t a methodology. I’ve spent 24 years building one — in Premier League academies and with players now at the top of the game. Comment 121 and I’ll send you my structure proven to take players to the Premier League

Lots happening in this clip?… Key takeaways though… We need to let players spend more time on the ball. Too much focus on overloaded practices, rondos and positional play inevitably leads to quick play and Group possession focus type outcomes. Also when do you let your players practice moving at full speed with the ball? This is where ball Mastery comes in and 1v1, 2v2 & 3v3 practices. I say the players I work with all the time. You should be able to move as quickly with the ball as you do without it, but unfortunately most Team sessions the ⚽️becomes like a hot potato.

The best players in the 🌍 can get on the ⚽️ and stay on the ⚽️ under pressure… if your sessions and your club/team don’t do this and are all Rondo’s and pass like the ball is a hot 🥔…. Then ask yourself is this really development? #ballmastery #soccerskills #soccertips #rondo

The top 5 mistakes 1-2-1 coaches make. 👇 I’ve watched hundreds of 1-2-1 coaches over 20 years. And most are making the same mistakes — not because they don’t care, but because nobody ever showed them what elite looks like. Ball mastery with no context. Sessions that are too easy. No position specific focus. No end product. Players who can only play on one foot. Fix these five things and your sessions will be unrecognisable within a week. Swipe through and see if you’re making any of them. 👇 Comment 121 and I’ll send you details on the 1-2-1 Coaching Course — the complete system built around fixing every one of these. £349 until June 30. Then £499.

Is there too much passing in Academy Football? Lots of opinions on this…here’s my take 🫡 I think there’s too much emphasis on group possession generally particularly in the younger age groups… We need to focus a bit more on individual possession and encouraging players…

Fake to shoot…break the line and shoot! If you play as an attacking player…midfielder or forward … you need this soccer drill! Key thing about this drill is disguise!!! Eyes and arms up, hips open, bigger the disguise the better… Once you’ve planted the defender…explode to break the line…then end product is key

I’ve been a 1-2-1 coach for over 20 years. I’ve worked with some of the best players in world football. I’ve coached at Chelsea and Spurs, and consulted for Premier League academies including Arsenal and Brighton. And in all that time, I see the same mistake made by 1-2-1 coaches at every level. They don’t link their practices to the game. Every drill, every rep, every session needs to be connected to real game actions — and for older players, position-specific actions. That’s how you get game transference. That’s how what happens in training shows up on match day. Not more drills. Not more volume. The right practices, linked to the right game moments, coached with clarity and purpose. That’s the difference between a session that looks good and a session that actually develops players. Are you making this mistake? 👇 Comment FIX below and I’ll send you exactly how to build game-specific actions into every 1-2-1 session you coach. 🎓
