Who was #LtkalisaMupende? the tragic story of a young man pres. kagame helped raise, only to see his life end in prison. 💔 Many were moved by Paul Kagame's story on #MeetThePresident about the young man he raised, educated in Uganda, India and the University of Manchester, and celebrated at his wedding in Presidency | Rwanda . His name was Lt. Kalisa Mupende, who later became Director of Finance in Kagame’s office and Chairman of the Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD). But behind that touching story lies a painful reality. In 2008, Kagame beat Mupende in front of senior officials over curtains for the presidential office, after Mupende awarded the contract to the wife of the late Gen. Fred Rwigema, a decision that angered Kagame. ( Cfr. Sgt Maj. ROBERT KABERA FOUND BEHEADED IN UGANDA Singer and former RDF Rwanda Ministry of Defence Sgt Major Robert Kabera, known as Sergeant Robert, was reportedly found beheaded at the site where he was building his house in Uganda. WHAT HAPPENED TO TRUST IN RWANDA? “One thing I’ve learned in Rwanda is to be patient and not to trust too easily. After spending so many years here, I have experienced so many lies, and honestly, I still don’t understand it. When you lie, the first person you lie to is yourself. You cannot truly develop when everything is built around lies. One lie requires another to protect it, then another, until it becomes bigger and bigger. Eventually, you may even start believing your own lies, while reality remains completely different. What has surprised me most is how often I have encountered this in workplaces, relationships and many other aspects of life in Rwanda. People need to think about the consequences. When someone experiences repeated dishonesty, eventually they walk away. You may think you have simply lost one person, but you could also be losing loyalty, opportunities, knowledge, creativity and someone who genuinely wanted to contribute. And one thing I have learned is that lies eventually come out, one way or another. When they do, they can bring everything down and force you to start again from zero. Apparently, President Paul Kagame has seen one of my posts — the one where I criticized signs of a potential monarchy or family dynasty. In response, he said his children are just Rwandans like everyone else, that he wished all three sons joined the army, but the eldest chose to make money instead. Fair enough I just hope he also pays attention to our other critiques, especially the ones that don’t revolve around his family.
