JUST IN: Tulihaleni Nghihalwa (38) has been sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment and fined N$20 000 by Acting High Court Judge Petrus Unengu this morning for her role in a N$4.4 million fraud scheme that targeted Komatsu. The scheme involved fraudulent invoices, fictitious suppliers and transfers into a network of her bank accounts. The case centred on 75 fraudulent transactions processed between January 2014 and May 2016. At the time, she served as an accountant at the company’s Swakopmund branch. Her brother and co-accused, Tulihafeni Nghihalwa (28), was fined N$20 000. Their cousin, Johanna Jona (32), who, together with Tulihafeni and fourth accused Pauline Ganes, controlled bank accounts into which the stolen money was transferred, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment and fined N$20 000. Ganes was sentenced to five years' imprisonment and fined N$30 000. Mbanga Siyomunji represented the four accused. UPDATE: RITA KAKELO

ROAD RAGE: Two motorists, including a taxi driver, were involved in a physical altercation on Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue in Windhoek at around 07h30 this morning, during which one of the men was seen drawing a firearm and pointing it at his opponent. The circumstances that triggered the confrontation remain unclear. Under Namibia's Arms and Ammunition Act 7 of 1996, the unlawful display of a firearm in public may result in arrest, criminal prosecution and the revocation of a firearm licence. BREAKING: A life insurance payout may have been the motive behind the killing of 41-year-old Salom Nikanor, the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court heard this morning. Andreas Sunday Kanyanga (25) appeared in court on charges of murder and obstructing or defeating the course of justice. He was remanded in custody as police investigations continue. The State alleges that Kanyanga, a soldier, had taken out a life insurance policy on Nikanor. Prosecutors claim that while facing financial difficulties, Kanyanga allegedly killed Nikanor after becoming impatient that he was “taking long to die”, in order to claim the insurance payout. Opposing bail, prosecutor Naledi ||Hoeses told the court that the offence is serious and violent in nature. She alleged that Nikanor was unlawfully killed and that his body was later dumped in a water pan. The State further indicated that evidence points to mutilation of the body, demonstrating a high degree of violence and cruelty. ||Hoeses argued that granting bail at this stage would jeopardise ongoing investigations, including the recovery and forensic analysis of exhibits, outstanding post-mortem reports, and the tracing and questioning of key witnesses. Kanyanga was informed of his right to legal representation and indicated that he intends to apply for a government-funded lawyer. He was also advised of his right to bring a formal bail application, which the State said it would oppose. The court ordered that Kanyanga remain in custody at the Ondangwa police cells. The matter was postponed to 18 June 2026 for further investigation. Magistrate Shantell-Antoinette Wanga Harris presided over the proceedings. Update: Tuyeimo Haidula

Elias ‘Small Boy’ Haifete, Lukas ‘Big Show’ Simon, Pinias ‘Bokie’ Haiduwa, Amon Haikali, and Lotto Haindongo - allegedly armed during the incident - were denied bail due to the seriousness of the charges and concerns they may flee. Separately, Haifete was also charged today, in a different court, with the murder of Fiina Nghifikwa, who was killed in Windhoek on 22 July. BAIL DENIED: Former agriculture minister Mac-Albert Hengari (59) and his 30-year-old co-accused were denied bail during Hengari’s first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court this morning. Hengari’s co-accused is a brother to the woman who has accused the disgraced ex-minister of rape, and allegedly flew in from Germany to facilitate a bribe payment of N$222 000 for her to withdraw her case she had laid against Hengari. He was arrested on Saturday while allegedly trying to hand over the money. Hengari and his co-accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, are each facing a charge of defeating the ends of justice, linked to alleged violations of the Riotous Assemblies Act. State prosecutor Seredine Jacobs opposed bail, citing fears that Hengari could interfere with pending police investigations. The co-accused, a resident of Germany, was also denied bail on the grounds that he poses a flight risk. THE HAND THAT GIVETH: On his birthday today, philanthropist and entrepreneur Knowledge Katti, a minority co-owner of the Kombat Mine, donated N$1 million to employees of the mine. The money is to be distributed equally among all the employees, including women working in the plantation adjacent to the mine. Speaking to Namibian Sun this evening, Katti said: "As I have mentioned many times before, I donated 10% of this mine to the community of Kombat. I’ve registered the Kombat Community Trust to drive the objectives of community development. While we continue to invest in growing the mine, I’ve decided to donate N$1 million to the employees of Kombat as part of the Kombat poverty reduction strategy spearheaded by the Kombat Community Trust." He added: "The employees and their families play an extremely important role in our success as business people and my donation to them - on my birthday - is my way to say thank you."

JUST IN: A 38-year-old security guard, Hendrik Haulamba, has alleged that he was brutally assaulted while on duty in the early hours of Friday morning at around 02:00. According to Haulamba, the owner of the premises where he was guarding in Okahandja allegedly threw him against a wall, kicked him repeatedly, and warned other workers not to assist him or make any noise, allegedly threatening to shoot them if they intervened. Haulamba further claims that when he reported the incident to his employer, Expert Security, he was told the alleged assault amounted to "disciplining" him. As the sole breadwinner of his family, Haulamba says he is still in pain and fears returning to work, claiming he remains afraid of being assaulted again. JUST IN: A 38-year-old security guard, Hendrik Haulamba, has alleged that he was brutally assaulted while on duty in the early hours of Friday morning at around 02:00. According to Haulamba, the owner of the premises where he was guarding in Okahandja allegedly threw him against a wall, kicked him repeatedly, and warned other workers not to assist him or make any noise, allegedly threatening to shoot them if they intervened. Haulamba further claims that when he reported the incident to his employer, Expert Security, he was told the alleged assault amounted to "disciplining" him. As the sole breadwinner of his family, Haulamba says he is still in pain and fears returning to work, claiming he remains afraid of being assaulted again.
