This is Dr Murugan explaining the uniqueness of Iruvatchi flower also known as Mani mandara or Kanchini. The Iruvatchi flower has 5 petals, 1 petal is different from the others, little broader and marked with a deep maroon patch, resembling a heart! Botanically this serves as a nectar guide, helping pollinators locate the flower more efficiently. That single marked petal is one reason the flower feels so expressive to the human eye! vc - plantsidentification_15 on Ig

I used to shave hair on my hands and legs for about 2 to 3 years of my entire life, that's it! My skin is better off with whatever natural hair I have. I saw this video that says - They didn’t start shaving because they wanted to, they started because companies wanted to sell more razors! What do you think? vc - @ badhistorystudent

Tamarind and Salt, the timeless duo! Till date these 2 companions sit side by side in our kitchen. As children my sisters, cousins, we would spend hours running around & playing and with this came a sprained ankle or swollen foot. The 'puli pathu' my grandma’s remedy was always ready - a little tamarind mixed with rock salt kept over the affected area and tied with a cloth. In a while the swelling would ease and we would get back to whatever we were doing. Looking back it feels amazing how our kitchens function like a tiny ayurvedic clinic hidden behind spice jars and steel containers! When I saw this video, I was reminded of young days. Are there any such healing combinations that you use? vc - dr.nambi_ayurveda on IG

6 farmers in a small Indian village dreamt of going abroad. They couldn’t. So they made a YouTube channel. For first 6 months nobody watched it. Within few years Village Cooking Channel became the 1st Tamil Youtube channel to cross 10M subscribers! Today they have 30M subscribers and 9B+ views. They cook everything - a lot of meat and other stuff too! But the reason they became so popular is not just the stunning visuals or fresh vegetables. They feed people at the end of every video. In the beginning, it was a few and eventually it got to hundreds. Funny story - these 6 men eventually did achieve their goal of going abroad! vc @ Soundarya Balasubramani

Black Vetiver Root Harvesting வெட்டிவேர் வாசம் ஊரெல்லாம் பேசும் - is an old Tamil saying! Meaning: the fragrance of vetiver is so distinctive that the whole village can smell it. Just watch how 'karuppu vetiver' or black vetiver roots are harvested. Aroma of this variety is said to be rich, deep, earthy, long lasting, making it perfect for perfumery and medicinal uses. The sandy riverbank soils along the Kollidam River near Thirubuvana Veera Mangalam in Mayiladuthurai District are considered esp suitable for cultivating black vetiver. vc - Sirkali TV

This Jackfruit Hits 40 Brix. And It's Named After a Farmer! Farmer Thirumalai's exceptional jackfruit variety has been recognized by ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and named 'Thirumala' - its the first time a jackfruit variety has been named after a farmer! Spread across 25 acres, his food forest is home to jackfruit, cashew, rambutan, avocado and many mango varieties. He says grafted jackfruit trees begin yielding in about 5 years, providing farmers with continuous income thereafter. He sells the fruit for Rs.30 per kg, and demand comes from all over Tamil Nadu to whom they courier it across. Proof that behind every extraordinary fruit, there is an extraordinary farmer. Why Marigold on the Fence of a Field? What farmers do here is natural pest management long before the term became fashionable. They don't fight nature, they invite the caretakers to the field! Marigold is one such fragrant guard. Its strong smell attracts friendly insects like ladybirds, lacewings, hoverflies, tiny wasps, all of which feed happily on the agricultural pests that attack crops inside the field! The fence itself becomes a living shield or fence. Generally farmers use these as fence crops: Marigold – pest control, soil protector Tulsi – insect repellent, pollinator friendly Castor – trap plant for certain pests Sunflower – attracts pollinators Sesbania, cowpea – improves soil and invites good insects vc - farming ideas tamil on fb

If you must eat non-veg eat this! What happens when we eat something which is genetically closer to us? 'When we eat something we must eat that kind of food which in terms of species is furthest away from us' - says Sadhguru in convo with Dr. Emeran Mayer, neuroscientist, renowned gastroenterologist, professor Founding Director of the UCLA Brain-Gut Microbiome Center. He agrees that there is enough scientific research proving this fact. You can watch their full conversation on youtube about the gut microbiome, its connection to human health, and foods that are supportive for health and the enhancement of our perception.
