MANIPUR IS TURNING INTO A POPPY HUB. WE CAN NO LONGER DENY THAT THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE HAS ALREADY REACHED OUR DOORSTEP It fills me with deep sorrow to see my beloved Manipur being turned into a poppy hub. Our once-lush forest areas are being devastated beyond recognition, while more locations with large-scale cultivation continue to be uncovered. What is even more disturbing is the lack of visible action in recent times. Earlier, massive drives were carried out across the State to destroy poppy plantations. Today, despite fresh reports of large-scale cultivation, that same urgency is no longer visible. At this alarming rate, we are not just losing our green cover; we are destroying the future of generations to come. The spread of poppy cultivation also raises serious concerns about Manipur’s proximity to the Golden Triangle and the danger of our State becoming deeply entangled in the narcotics economy. I earnestly appeal to the NCB INDIA and the MoEF&CC , to take serious, urgent and decisive action before it is too late.

At this alarming rate of deforestation, we are not just losing our green cover, we are destroying the very future of this generation & the generations to come. I earnestly appeal to the NCB INDIA and MoEF&CC to take serious, urgent and decisive efforts to stop this menace before it is too late. Manipur’s survival depends on it.

I commend the successful joint operation conducted by Manipur Police, CoBRA, CRPF, Mahila personnel and RAF teams at Gampum village under Saikul Police Station, Kangpokpi District. In a decisive raid on an unauthorized/illegal camp belonging to suspected Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) cadres, eight cadres were apprehended and seven automatic weapons recovered. The arrested individuals and seized arms have been taken into custody for further investigation & legal proceedings. Such crackdowns remain crucial to safeguard law and order. I appreciate the DGP, ADGP & the entire dedicated team for the swift & coordinated action.

What exactly are the security forces doing? Houses are being burnt in broad daylight while residents sit helplessly in relief camps. When people are forced out of their homes, protecting their property is the duty of the forces. No excuses. Kanto Sabal lies right next to the 57 Mountain Division, with both central and state forces stationed here. Yet homes continue to burn. If the forces cannot protect property under their very nose, the failure is theirs and the blame cannot be shifted onto the people. Responsibility must be fixed on the officer in charge of security in this area, without delay. Elements trying to sabotage the peace process are operating freely, and this cannot be tolerated. The culprits must be identified and arrested immediately.

In 2020-21, the Government of Manipur, a Border Area State with unique geographical and strategic challenges, submitted a detailed proposal to the Ministry for an elevated highway to improve connectivity, safety, and economic growth and to ease out the traffic congestion in the Imphal capital city. Even after years, the proposal remains pending. At the same time, thousands of elevated roads and overbridges have been constructed nationwide, including in several states of the North East. Please see the present condition of Imphal city- traffic congestion has reached alarming levels, even on holidays. Day-to-day administrative work, economic activity, and public services are being severely affected. The people of Manipur feel deeply concerned, as the functioning of day-to-day works has been affected. Visited JNIMS and met the Naga women who are still undergoing treatment for mental trauma following their recent incident of abduction and killings. I am deeply saddened to see their continued pain and suffering. I inquired about their health and ongoing treatment, and extended my heartfelt support and best wishes for their full recovery and mental well-being. We stand with these brave women in their difficult time of healing. Praying for their complete recovery & strength.

What a moment! Watching our very own Manipuri daughter, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, win yet another Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow is pure joy. Three Commonwealth Games gold medals in a row is an incredible achievement by itself. But setting a new Commonwealth Games record on the way to that gold makes this victory even more memorable. This video recorded today shows why recurrent floods have taken place in the state. The footage shows poppy plantation at Kolten and Selsi Hill Ranges of IT- Road under T. Waichong Sub-division in Kangpokpi District. All our forest have been destroyed while we are trying to pull each other down. None of our leaders have spoken out against such wide-scale devastation. Why officials of the Forest Department have not taken any action against the perpetrators? It is suspected that armed militants are involved in these illicit activities. Unless we take concrete action, the state will face an existential crisis.

Considering the seriousness of the issue of ‘illegal immigration’ into India & under the advice of the Central Government, the Manipur Govt. has initiated the drive to capture biometric data of the illegal migrants who are currently being detained in Manipur. This exercise is being carried out to ensure that foreign nationals don’t obtain Indian citizenship by any form of unfair means. Large scale influx of illegal migrants pose a threat to our national security and it must be tactfully dealt with.

It breaks my heart to see my state Manipur, a land of strength, fall into the grip of drugs. The shifting of the Golden Triangle towards India has brought a dangerous transformation, especially for my state. Manipur, once celebrated for its natural beauty and resilience, has now become a hotspot for poppy cultivation, fuelling a cycle of addiction and trafficking that threatens the youth of our nation and the very fabric of society. Recognising this early, the BJP-led government launched a determined “War on Drugs.” The large-scale destruction of poppy fields and prosecution of offenders gave people hope that the menace could be curbed. Since its launch, the campaign has shown tremendous results, creating widespread awareness and instilling fear among those involved. However, after the 3rd May 2023 incident, cartels exploited the reduced enforcement of the War on Drugs, and poppy cultivation spread once again across different parts of the hills. Recent photographs from villages in the adjoining forest areas of Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts like Challengbung, Chingphei, Sangkai and Yoleng reveal the alarming scale of these operations. This grave situation demands urgent intervention. I urge all authorities to confront this menace with an iron hand, and I call upon the national media to conduct ground surveys and let the world see what is really happening in Manipur. The problem must be uprooted before it consumes all of us. Manipur cannot be left to fight this battle alone. It needs urgent and collective action to prevent irreversible damage and to achieve Nasha Mukt Bharat.
