Once upon a time, my daughter came back from school and said, “Daddy, I can play the saxophone.” I burst out laughing. “Daddy, be serious now,” she insisted. I looked at her and joked, “You and the saxophone, who will carry who?” I teased her. “OK, show me.” The following day she brought the saxophone from school and actually played a nice tune. “Wow! Your music teacher has done well. Please bring him to me,” I said. The next day, I saw the music teacher. I first dashed him some money and asked, “Now, how much will you collect to continue teaching her?” Then my other daughter also said she could play the violin 🎻. “Alright then.” All the children are now involved. The school was directly opposite my house. Finally, the piano I bought in 2012 now had a job to do. So we started practice in November and December 2019, and the children were progressing. One day, I was deep in thought: What if the children stopped going to school for like two months so they can learn this music properly? A time when there will be no school assignments. Well, that prayer was answered. In January 2020, I was sacked from work, and by March the world was shut down due to COVID-19. I did not really like the idea that it was closed because of a pandemic. I used part of my severance package from the bank to buy musical instruments. During the lockdown, the music teacher only needed to cross the canal to our house in Aguda. For six months we rehearsed and rehearsed. I would promise the children financial gain if they got any song right. That was their motivation then, and they performed excellently well. I remember going to the National Stadium, Surulere, to learn how to play tennis 🎾. I was told I had to register, so I did. Fortunately, I met the then national coach. He assigned coaches to me, and one of them was Alfa, whose story I shared a few days ago. One of the first things they told me was: “Forget everything you learnt on the street. We are going to teach you how to play tennis professionally.” That instruction humbled me. At that moment, I had to become like a baby learning to crawl again. They taught me how to hold the racket properly. How to position myself. How to move. How to serve. The basics I thought I already knew had to be relearned. And then came another lesson: you must be humble enough to learn from anybody—even a seven-year-old! 😂 Those little ones can be wicked with a racket. They will beat you mercilessly and send you home questioning your life choices. 😂 But that is part of the beauty of the game. You keep showing up. People will laugh at you. Some will challenge you. You will make embarrassing mistakes. But you keep showing up because consistency determines how quickly you grow. Then, after a while, something magical begins to happen. Your movements improve. Your confidence grows. Your shots become better. The things that once looked difficult begin to feel natural. And one beautiful day, you discover that you can challenge the very person who taught you. That is not just tennis. That is life. Sometimes, to become great at something, you must first be humble enough to become a beginner again. Unlearn. Learn. Practise. Be corrected. Be laughed at. Keep showing up. One day, the student will be able to challenge the master.😁 That is the beauty of growth.

Day 23 of the Art Video Challenge. 🎨🚲 I love painting bicycles. Against all odds, I brought this bicycle from my wife’s village in Delta State to Lagos. When the bus arrived, the driver refused to take it because of the size. I pleaded with him and insisted that there had to be a way. Thankfully, he didn't dismiss me. He found a solution that was safe, lawful, and without violating any traffic rules. That experience reminded me of an important lesson: sometimes the difference between giving up and moving forward is finding someone willing to help you make a way. There is almost always a way - if you don't give up too soon. Have a wonderful day, and keep creating.
