Her body was discovered several days later with her young daughter still sitting beside her. The child, who had also suffered a gunshot wound, was found injured and suffering from hunger beside her mother’s body. She was heard saying, “I’m hungry.” The killing occurred amid attacks against Amhara communities in East Wollega that began on August 18 and involved Oromia Region Special Forces, Geda Commando forces, Qerro (Oromo youth), and ENDF personnel. These regime forces have carried out house-to-house attacks against civilians who were unable to flee, including pregnant women, mothers, the elderly, and other vulnerable residents.

🚨 Over 250 Amhara civilians massacred at Gind Ansa St. Michael Monastery as ENDF, Oromia Region Gada Commando, Jaal Mose-led OLA and Qeerroo forces carry out killings across Gida Ayana More than 250 Amhara civilians who had sought refuge at Gind Ansa St. Michael Monastery in Mender 3, Gida Ayana Woreda, East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, were massacred amid an ongoing wave of attacks against Amhara communities in the area. Priests, monks, elderly people, mothers, pregnant women and children were among those killed. The monastery massacre forms part of a wider wave of violence affecting Andode Dicho Kebele, Shashober, Fendika, Anger Gutin, Mender 3, Mender 4 and Mender 22 since August 18, 2026. Sources on the ground and survivor accounts identify Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) soldiers, Oromia Region Gada Commando forces, the Abiy regime-backed Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) led by Jaal Mose, and armed Qeerroo (Oromo youth) groups among the forces involved in the violence. Videos emerging from the affected area reportedly show Jaal Mose-led OLA fighters operating alongside Gada Commando forces during a raid on an Ethiopian Orthodox church. Some of the most severe violence occurred at Debre Anbessa Gind Ansa St. Michael, where large numbers of civilians had taken refuge after fleeing attacks on surrounding communities. ENDF soldiers and Gada Commando forces surrounded the monastery compound and opened fire on civilians attempting to escape, using Bren machine guns, sniper rifles and Kalashnikov rifles. Armed Qeerroo (Oromo youth) members operating under the cover of the security forces entered the monastery compound and attacked civilians with bladed weapons. Among those killed were pregnant women and infants as young as two months old. Additional killings occurred throughout Mender 3, where more than 52 civilians were reported killed in areas affected by the violence. A separate massacre occurred in Mender 22, several kilometers from Mender 3, where more than 44 Amhara civilians were killed. Among the victims were 85-year-old Aba Ayele Arega, a respected community elder known for mediating disputes and consoling grieving families, and his wife, Emahoy Eskedar Gelaw. New mothers and infants were also among those killed. Some victims in Mender 22 were killed with sickles and machetes. In particularly disturbing cases, the weapons used in the killings were found still lodged in victims’ bodies when their remains were recovered for burial. The continuing presence of ENDF soldiers and other armed forces has prevented residents from safely recovering and burying many of those killed. Bodies remain scattered throughout affected areas, with some reportedly being consumed by vultures and wild animals and others swept away by floodwaters. The final death toll could rise further. Several civilians attempting to flee Mender 3 and Mender 22 were shot by ENDF soldiers and escaped while bleeding, leaving their whereabouts and condition unknown. Across Andode Dicho, Shashober, Fendika, Anger Gutin, Mender 3, Mender 4 and Mender 22, the attacks have caused extensive civilian casualties, mass displacement and widespread destruction. Entire communities have been devastated, while homes and civilian property have been destroyed and livestock looted and taken away. Thousands of residents have fled their communities amid continuing insecurity and fear of further attacks, leaving surviving residents unable to safely retrieve victims, bury the dead or return to their homes.

🚨 Amhara, Tigrayan and Gumuz civilians massacred in Waja, Fendika and Lemi as Gada Commando, Jaal Mose-led OLA and Qeerroo forces expand attacks in East Wollega of Oromia Region A large-scale massacre of Amhara, Tigrayan and Gumuz civilians has taken place in Waja, Fendika and Lemi in East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, amid continuing attacks involving Oromia Region Gada Commando forces, the Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 regime-backed Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) led by Jaal Mose, and armed Qeerroo (Oromo youth). In Lemi, Gada Commando forces that burned Lemi Teklehaimanot Church last week have occupied Lemi Abo Church and are using the church compound as a military base. Forces positioned at the church have been firing indiscriminately toward civilian-populated areas, further endangering residents and forcing families to flee. Amhara and Gumuz communities in the area attempted to defend themselves against the attacks but were ultimately overpowered by Oromia Region security forces backed by Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) units. Survives from the affected areas have said armed Qeerroo (Oromo youth), recruited from areas under Shimelis Abdisa control, have been following behind Gada Commando forces as they move through affected communities, setting fire to homes and properties belonging to Amhara, Tigrayan and Gumuz civilians. The latest violence in Waja, Fendika and Lemi comes amid an expanding wave of killings, displacement, destruction of civilian property and attacks on Ethiopian Orthodox churches across parts of East Wollega Zone.

🚨 Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 regime prepares to expand genocidal massacres of Amhara civilians from Gida Ayana to Kiremu Woreda in East Wollega Zone New preparations are underway for attacks targeting Amhara communities in Kiremu Woreda of East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, according to information obtained by Ethio Focus News on September 2nd, 2026. Ethio Focus News reported that Prosperity Party officials are recruiting between 60 and 80 youths from each kebele across Kiremu Woreda. The newly recruited forces are reportedly being organized alongside local security forces in preparation for attacks against Amhara residents and their properties. The report further states that Gada Commando forces are expected to enter Kiremu to lead the operation. Residents have reportedly been ordered to contribute 500 birr per person to finance a reception and food for the incoming forces. The preparations are primarily targeting Amhara-populated areas including Haro Addis Alem, Nole Gabriel, Seden, Boqa, Nechilo and Wodesa Dima, as well as surrounding communities. The reported mobilization comes amid continuing insecurity and violence affecting Amhara , Tigrayan, and Gumuz communities in East Wollega.

The military convoy was reportedly transporting property looted from Amhara communities in Mender Sost and Fendika Kebeles following regime attacks in which Amhara civilians were massacred and homes and other property across the two kebeles were burned down. Heavy fighting followed the offensive, with the Ansha Seyid Command claiming significant losses among the combined regime forces. During the fighting, Fano forces destroyed 13 convoy vehicles and captured an additional 2 patrol vehicles. Fano forces also claimed the capture of a significant quantity of weapons, including: ▪️70 Kalashnikov rifles, ▪️3 Bren light machine guns, ▪️And 2 sniper rifles with associated equipment. The Ansha Seyid Command also said its forces recovered millions of Ethiopian birr that it said had been looted from civilians.

The units reportedly engaged forces under General Sofia Bekri, commander of the 602nd Corps of the 6th Command, in heavy fighting around Debre Zeit. According to sources, one ENDF regiment was destroyed during the fighting, while 42 regime militia members were killed. An additional 29 personnel - 20 ENDF soldiers and 9 militia members - were reportedly captured. 🚨 Ethiopian state media has released a documentary on the Shererina battle, showing a large number of TDF POWs and captured weapons. Most of the captured forces are from Army 13, which was recently redeployed from Shiraro, Western Tigray, to Shererina to reinforce TPLF bases in the area, while Army 70 is currently deployed in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, helping SAF forces in their battle against RSF.
