💢 Strikes hit Iraq’s north, PMF base in Kirkuk... and targets in Duhok Airstrikes hit a Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) site in Kirkuk, killing at least three fighters and wounding four others, according to a PMF statement. Other reports cited by Al Jazeera put the toll at three killed and up to seven wounded. U.S. and Israeli forces have repeatedly struck the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a state-affiliated paramilitary network operating under the Iraqi government, in recent weeks, killing dozens of fighters. The PMF said the Northern and East Tigris Operations Command headquarters was struck in three separate airstrikes. Separately, explosions and gunfire were reported in Duhok, where strikes targeted the residence of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani—a rare escalation in the northern region near the Syrian border. Iran’s IRGC quickly condemned the Duhok strike, calling it a “terrorist act” by U.S. and Israeli forces and warning of efforts to destabilize the region. The rapid condemnation is notable given Iran has recently carried out strikes against armed Kurdish separatist groups in Iraq. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani said the government would not allow “outlaw actors, whether regional or international, to drag Iraq into the ongoing conflict in the region.” (🎥 Videos 1–2 show Kirkuk; Video 3 shows Dohuk)show more

Dangerous Military Escalation and Systematic Attempts to Drag the... Region into War Since dawn today, the areas of Deir Hafer, Maskanah, and Tishreen Dam have been witnessing continuous military escalation, amid an intense aggression carried out by Damascus factions, in parallel with escalating attacks by Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles ( Bayraktar) , which warns of increasing risks to the security of civilians and vital facilities in the region. During the early morning hours, Damascus government factions launched repeated attacks on the surroundings of Tishreen Dam, using suicide drones, artillery shells, and mortars. The number of attacks exceeded 12 strikes, which also targeted the villages of Al-Mahshiyah, Sheikh Hassan, and the villages of Qishlah. The shelling is still ongoing around the dam at the time of preparing this report. The Damascus factions also escalated their targeting of infrastructure and service facilities in the town of Deir Hafer, where the Deir Hafer Post Office building was shelled using artillery and suicide drones without casualties, while the civilian Deir Hafer bakery was targeted by a suicide drone, leading to the disruption of service and a direct threat to the population’s food security. These attacks were accompanied by clear attempts to paralyze daily life by targeting any movement in the area, including preventing farmers from accessing their lands and work, which negatively affected the civilians’ living conditions. On the ground, our forces repelled an infiltration attempt carried out by Damascus government factions on the axis of the village of Zubaidah in the southern countryside of Deir Hafer city. The attempt failed, and the attackers were forced to flee, despite it being carried out under the cover of drones and the use of machine guns. In parallel, the area witnessed intensive flights of Turkish (Bayraktar) drones, where a ( Bayraktar) Turkish drone targeted a military point belonging to our forces in the city of Maskanah without casualties، this being the second strike on the same day. Another point was also targeted in the village of Al Bu‘asi in the countryside of Tabqah. The Turkish drones( Bayraktar) continued to target the city of Maskanah for the fourth time since the start of the escalation, a clear indication of the rising pace of aerial attacks in the region. This simultaneous escalation since dawn today comes amid the continuation of military operations up to the present moment, which heightens expectations of an expansion of the scope of confrontations and their serious repercussions on civilians, infrastructure, and vital facilities. The Damascus factions bear full responsibility for this escalation and the resulting humanitarian and security consequences in the region. SDF Media Centre January 14, 2026show more

Rumor has it, Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 is expected... to launch an all out war against TPLF and Eritrea, following the African Union Summit, which concludes on February 16. The recent large-scale ENDF offensive in North Shewa and Wollo Zones of Amhara region, accompanied by a complete communications blackout, appears to be aimed at weakening Fano in order to prevent it from advancing toward Addis Ababa once a new northern war begins. So far the offensive has not been successful with ENDF facing heavy losses, with large scale civilian massacres reported in retaliation for these losses. At the same time, ENDF has been observed redeploying troops and heavy weaponry from South Gonder and other parts of the Amhara region toward Tigray. ENDF forces have reportedly been withdrawn from 13 of the 18 woredas in South Gonder, including Hamusit, Ibnat, Meketewa, Arb Gebeya, Welela Behar, Aja, Ayisa, Muja, and Wegeda, and shifted northward. TPLF has also been seen moving troops and heavy weapons toward Welkait and Telemt from Sudan, Shiraro, and Dedebit. A sizable force, along with logistics and heavy weaponry, has also been deployed yesterday in Maychew and Mehoni along the Raya front, signaling preparations for another offensive. The latest statement by Ethiopian FM Gedion Timothewos Hessebon further reinforces the likelihood of escalation, suggesting that the question is no longer if a war with Eritrea will occur, but when. And when the war eventually breaks out, Abiy is expected to point to this letter as evidence that he pursued every available peaceful option, framing the war as a last resort imposed upon him.show more

‼️ Lebanon Under “Eternal Darkness”: Massive Israeli Coordinated Strikes... Across the Country Lebanon witnessed a massive, coordinated wave of Israeli strikes today, including direct hits in central Beirut. This appears to be one of the largest single waves of attacks on the country in decades. Strikes have hit multiple areas across: •Beirut and its southern suburbs •Southern Lebanon •The Bekaa Valley and Baalbek region Locations in the capital include densely populated neighbourhoods such as Corniche al-Mazraa, Musaytbeh, Basta, Ain el-Tineh, Hay el-Lija , Manara, & others, alongside additional strikes in surrounding areas including Choueifat, Aramoun, & Bchamoun. Across the south & Bekaa, dozens of towns & cities have also been targeted in a wide geographic spread. The scale, simultaneity, and distribution of these strikes point to a highly coordinated operation carried out across multiple fronts at once. Lebanon’s Health Minister says hospitals are overwhelmed, with over 350 casualties reported across the country, including both killed & injured. Let that sink in over 350 within a spate of 10 minutes. Israeli media reports the operation has been named “Eternal Darkness,” & military leadership has confirmed that strikes against Hezbollah will continue under this campaign. At the same time, conflicting signals are emerging around the ceasefire. Israeli officials say there will be no halt to operations in Lebanon, while Iran, despite agreeing to a two-week pause with the United States, has warned it may respond if attacks on Lebanon continue. This suggests the ceasefire may be partial, not comprehensive, with the risk of escalation still very much present.show more

Rising during the height of agitation in the oil-rich Niger Delta, Soboma George became known as a militant commander and gang leader whose influence spread through parts of the region in the 2000s. He was widely linked to the militant movement Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), a group that emerged during protests against oil exploitation and the demand for greater benefits for local communities. Beyond militancy, Soboma George was also known to lead a feared cult group called “The Outlaws.” At the peak of the Niger Delta crisis, armed groups across the region were involved in attacks on oil facilities, confrontations with security forces, and kidnappings linked to the struggle over oil resources. Soboma George eventually accepted the amnesty offer and reportedly handed over arms along with many of his followers. But his story would soon take a dramatic turn. On August 24, 2010, Soboma George lost his life in Port Harcourt, in an attack widely believed to be linked to rival groups or individuals within his own network. His rise and sudden end made him one of the most talked-about militant figures in Rivers State during the peak of the Niger Delta militancy a period that reshaped the region’s political and security landscape.show more
