Delhi: 16-year-old girl gang-raped inside bus; vehicle seized for forensic examination. The incident occurred on the night of August 4 when the girl, travelling from Uttar Pradesh to meet her cousin in Noida, mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk during heavy rain. She allegedly signalled to the empty sleeper bus, and the driver, Kuldeep, along with the conductor, Sandeep, offered her a ride.

Nashik onion farmers threaten nationwide protest if Centre's intervention triggers price fall. Farmers at the moment are getting a good price for the yield but that would drop if the Centre procured onion to control rising prices. They fear central government market interventions will bring open-market wholesale prices below production costs. The Centre has started moving bulk onion stocks through dedicated railway rakes – the 'Kanda Express' – from Nashik in Maharashtra to major consuming centres, as part of efforts to augment supplies and check the seasonal rise in prices.

Andhra Pradesh mechanic builds homemade escalator to help wife climb stairs. A 65-year-old mechanic, Satti Siva Narayana Reddy from Arthamuru village in East Godavari district, has designed and built a homemade escalator to help his wife, Satyaveni (58), climb the 21 steps leading to the first floor of their house. He added that the idea had been planned two years ago but was completed recently.
