Are some foreign investors still overstating the risks of investing in Zimbabwe? Two investors that have recently raised capital for large-scale mining projects here think so. At an investor presentation in New York this week, Caledonia Mining’s VP for Corporate Development Maurice Mason says: “This (risk perception in Zim) is one we think has been overdone and mispriced”. Earlier this year, Caledonia raised $150m through a bond for its Bilboes project, attracting more than $600m in bids, including strong demand from US institutional investors. Aliko Dangote speaks on his plans to build an oil pipeline network to supply fuel across Southern Africa. The plan includes a 240-million-barrel storage facility at Walvis Bay, Namibia. Fuel would then be moved through a 2,600 km pipeline network connecting Botswana, SA, Zim, Zambia and the DRC. The region’s limited fuel storage and pipeline infrastructure leaves many countries relying on trucks to move fuel. This adds to costs and transit times. Dangote’s plan is to invest in pipelines to lower those costs and help grow demand for his petroleum in SADC. In 2025, Dangote sold 158,000 tonnes of fuel to Southern Africa, compared with 4 million tonnes in West Africa.

The suspension was lifted late Friday. Mumba says the move was not an attempt to rig the election, and criticised opposition candidate Brian Mundubile for declaring himself the winner. SADC and AU observers have been generally positive on the poll in their preliminary reports. However, SADC says Friday’s vote count/results suspension caused “uncertainty and anxiety”, while the AU mission says it “contributed to increased mistrust, political tension, and incidents of violence”. Mumba, who leads his own party, backed President Hakainde Hichilema in the election, saying his handling of the economy has been “nothing less than a miracle.” Early results show Hichilema with a commanding lead.

Health Minister Douglas Mombeshora said this in response to MP Lynette Karenyi-Kore, who asked why such services are only offered in Harare. Mombeshora says govt plans to train more forensic pathologists, which takes 4 years, and pay specialists better.
